Armagh Squeeze Home Against Louth.

Armagh 0.12 Louth 0.11

Three sublime scores from Stefan Campbell in the second half., of tonight's league opener against Louth squeezed Armagh over the line with a one point win. Conor Turbitt also stood out with Oisin Conaty making a huge impression on his league debut, Paddy Burns was Armaghs best on the night, Sam Mulroy for the visitors fell short from set pieces. Jarly Og Burns steadied the ship in the dying embers, Armaghs high press in the second period paid dividends. Blaine Hughes was impressive in goals for the winners.

Having watched a fair bit of the Derry v Kerry match, and the Dublin v Monaghan match (as well as all of our crappy performance) - we are a long way behind our 2 Ulster neighbours. Each of them have far better football styles and are much easier to watch. We seem to have the same style as last year, far too negative and pedestrian.

Much more of that and the "Geezer out" campaign will start earlier than usual.

Was I at the same game I thought Turbo was poor. That 1st goal chance and loss of ball on a few occasions. Conaty I only remember with 1 score. Turbo hit 4 points from frees but missed 4 also.

I would say it was great to have Paddy Burns back and he did cover lots of ground.

You don't know that Croker Park is bigger than the Athletics Ground & Armagh won't have give them the space Dublin did
Their intensity was far higher tonight. Very direct and they've unearthed a couple of excellent young forwards. Def ahead of us at present but early days. All about June / July.

I wouldn't have been overly concerned other than the fact that we seem to be sticking to exactly the same style of play that ultimately failed last season and that's what I find frustrating. To be honest I can't tell what our attacking plan is, when we aren't creating chaos and counterattacking. The management could argue that we were two last second frees away from winning an Ulster title and being in an All Ireland semi-final. Which is true. But I really don't see how we are going to progress playing this turgid way. Teams will see how we struggle to score from play and only look dangerous from turnover ball and know that if they limit turnovers and the amount of times we get a head of steam up, they can blunt us enough in attack from open play and the best teams who we want to compete with, will be the best at dealing with that. The positives are that we won, Campbell stepped up in the second half, Grugan played well, we competed well at midfield, we should have scored two goals in the first half which would have made it a different game, defensively we looked ok (but better teams would have taken more of those chances), we created a lot of turnovers and we were missing key players who will come back in and make us better. The negatives are the slow play, our attacking when we aren't on the counterattack, the amount of turnovers we gave away and poor decision making (what was Forker playing at getting that free moved up, with that annoying thing he does where he fouls someone and then continues to make contact with them by pretending he's falling into them and then Conor O'Neills moment of madness). Plenty of work to be done.

Long way behind but it took penalties for them both to beat us only 6 months ago.

Tonight's performance was car from great. And that is being kind. But not going to be overly critical.

Personally I feel its important we get promoted this year and first game of the league the result is only thing that matters

First half turbo didn’t play well and I was surprised to see him come out for the second. Was much better second half

A poor performance tonight but two points

We'd barely half a team out against a three quarter Derry team and played better

We're better than what was on display tonight so I'm pleased with 2 points. In years gone by we'd have lost that game
Louth were well organised and will prove a handful to other teams

Who'd have thought that all Ulster teams playing this evening wouldn't lose Dublin and Kerry beaten

For me, and I don't really care about performance, it's getting a win, at home. The goal is promotion so how we get there I don't care.
There's a lot of players ready to play and a lot to come in
Beating Meath next week and then a two week break will boost confidence and hopefully allow others time to get into the squad.

Wise up. They both beat the two best teams in the country and we should have been beaten by Louth. You can't keep changing your narrative to suit your undieing love of our management. That was a disgrace tonight and I don't mean the players. McGeeney is utterly clueless but no doubt he will blame the ref or the rules or the fans.

Another yes man. If we lost it would be all about the performance. Pathetic.

If you don’t think some of the players were a disgrace tonight then you’re letting your hatred of the management cloud your judgement

Which players were a disgrace? What a disgusting thing to say about any lad going out to play an amateur sport.

Louth are probably developing towards championship level now. With how the All Ireland works now, I hope we are not caught out.
