2020 season - write off?

Can’t believe I missed all the craic above, months sitting about doing nothing thinking there’s not going to be any football at all and bored to death, then head on here and see that I’ve missed the most exciting row since Cavan in the Athletic Grounds. Gutted.

Anyway, I only came on to see if there was any chat about the upcoming league. I see on Twitter that the Tyrone Clubs have voted for a promotion only league this year.

That leaves us as the only county in the north that is still planning on relegating teams this year. Not a huge problem for ourselves mind you but still I think it’s disappointing.

Why? If teams play a league they earn promotion and vice versa on the relegation side. Everyone has the same opportunity

Only in the senior and intermediate tho, they decided not to relegate the losers of the junior league this year.

Under normal circumstances I totally agree with. But this year has been far from normal.

Not all clubs will have been affected by Covid-19 the same, plus we all know some clubs have totally followed the GAA guidelines on training while others haven’t in order to gain an advantage.

GAA have said no team should be adversely affected due to the Covid-19 crisis and many counties such as Derry, Dublin and Down have interpreted this as allowing clubs to complete this year without the risk of relegation.

Armagh interpreted it as ‘don’t play if you don’t want to.’

I find that disappointing in comparison to other counties.

Out of interest, how are other counties working it? What would you suggest Armagh do? Use the league as basically a championship warm up? Even then, does it not take away from a championship if the winners aren’t going to be promoted?

By removing the prospect of promotion you are negatively impacting teams because of covid though. No promotion/relegation means it's a series of friendlies and pretty pointless imo.

Let's be honest, none of the senior teams will have numerous players seriously affected by covid health-wise, the numbers in the North are pretty small and the overwhelming majority of serious cases have been elderly people (80% at last estimate)

As far as I’ve been heard, and this has just been from talking to a few guys I work with, Tyrone is still offering promotion both via league and championship. I don’t think they have entirely clarified how they’re going to rectify that next year but basically they’ll have two extra teams at senior grade next year and two less at junior. There’ll still be 16 at intermediate as the two that are promoted to senior are replaced by the two promoted from junior.

Next year they have to relegate additional teams to get everything balanced up, although they are supposedly considering taking two years to balance it.

No idea what way Dublin are doing it.

Promotion is still on the table in Tyrone. Not sure about the others.

And it’s not about the players, who as you say are probably in the very low risk bracket. It’s about players with very vulnerable people in their homes having to choose between helping their club or protecting their loved ones.

Senior players can still pass it on to people who are at risk. And it’s not just the elderly at risk.

I understand that, which is why the measures are being put in place. However, my comment was in response to Bo darville saying some teams will be affected by the virus disproportionately compared to other teams, rather than a comment on the spread of the disease. My comment was based purely on the football aspect.

It's a divisive issue guys, I understand everyone's viewpoint even if I disagree

Every county player in the country has been swimming in Camlough lake every Sunday morning at 4.30am
No, that's not it. Every county player was told to go to the site of the proposed new training complex in Portadown. The squad dont know Portadown very well, stopped and asked where the big centre is for the Orangemen and ended up training at Corcrain Orange Hall!

Ha ha, showing your age there Pat. Mc Canns cafe has long since gone. We now have another emporium of high cuisine The Chip Wagon which, believe it or not, is even closer to the Orange Hall than Mc Canns cafe was.

What?!

I was going to treat herself to a fish supper from McCann’s at the weekend. Ah well, the thought was there!

(Must screenshot your post as evidence).
