PLANS have been submitted to transform St. Malachy’s Portadown into a multi-million pound state-of-the-art county training facility.

Strategically located the development of the 26-acre site on the outskirts of Portadown will help address the need for county training facilities.

The planning application includes four playing fields with floodlighting and catch nets, sports changing pavilion with multi-purpose hall, strength and conditioning suite, spectator stand/terrace, ball-wall, air dome (covered inflatable sports bubble) and associated car and coach parking.

Chairman Michael Savage commented,

“We are delighted to reach an important key milestone on this significant development project. Our clubs fully endorsed the proposed development last September and we are pleased to have submitted the planning application for processing.

“This really is testament to the tremendous work of the project board who has played a vital role in bringing this project to the planning stage and I want to thank them for all their work to date.

“It is an exciting time for Armagh GAA as we take another vital step forward to deliver what is a well-known fact that we need additional and improved facilities for all our county teams and academy squads.

“While we await the outcome of the planning process, which will be later this year, our focus will now be towards exploring all funding opportunities and we strongly encourage all our clubs to continue to raise vital finance through the club draw.”
