Armagh v Cavan - Ulster Semi-final and Replay

Disappointing but I thought Cavan were excellent. We have no sense of game management and no ruthless streak. Like so many of our league games (Kildare / Clare / Meath / cork) we get ourselves in a position to push on and win mid way through the second half yet don't follow through. Frustrating how we continually allowed Cavan to get their kick outs away.

Clarke is a footballing genius and a pleasure to watch. O'Neill and Campbell were also excellent

Donaghy was a major loss. I can't understand why McKay and McCabe aren't starting.

I thought to start Paddy burns on mcveety was strange considering he has had very little football under his belt. Very disappointing to see him pull out of a tackle late on. Someone needs to tell him to stop acting like a d**k on the pitch and that he's not playing for Tyrone.

Regarding Vernon, he has never been, is not and never will be a county standard footballer. Not as a half forward, midfielder, half back or full back. A lot of eejits on here picking him as a captain. Bizarre. He's keeping a jersey from someone.

I've really liked Nugent in the first 2 championship games but he seemed more interested in getting involved in verbals today. Allowed moynagh to gather a few kick outs.
Your some tool bag, such a statement about Charlie, you obviously haven’t been to too many actual Armagh games in the last 10 years, some supporter u r, any player is allowed a bad game, he’s been a great swrnwvt to the county

I agree with this with the exception of your paragraph on Vernon. You couldn’t be more wrong

After five seasons in charge mcgeeney has a 14% win ratio in Ulster. If it wasn’t clear 4 years ago it has to be clear now. He couldn’t win anything with a very good Kildare team and he can’t win any meaningful games with this Armagh team which is without a doubt been underperforming given the talent it’s got. Clearly can’t cut it in management it’s time to go. Anyone who stands behind him and supports him now clearly doesn’t have the best interests of Armagh gaa at heart because this man is holding the county back.
Anything to say on the game?

I think this Armagh team have given us a fair run for our money during this Ulster Championship. Yesterday disappointing and slightly flattering for Cavan, but they just showed us the benefit of regular Division 1 football in tight scenarios. Every time we close to a point, they extended - it’s just good game management.

As for those slating Geezer, he wasn’t the one who kicked the bad wides or took wrong decisions when in on goal.

There can only be two possible explanations for this statement. One, that you are on the wind up and are seeking to get a reaction and two, that you haven't a clue what you are talking about.

Both options unfortunately offer little comfort to those of us who hope to have a forum where a wee bit of sense and reasoned debate is prevalent.

Yesterday was a painful one and I'll therefore try and keep it succinct.

Cavan were the better team yesterday and deserved their victory. However the six points winning margin really flattered them and was tough on our lads. I've commented in the past - and recent past at that - that we are not a ruthless team and unfortunately yet again there was ample evidence for that yesterday. We spurned four gilt-edged goal chances, with the one that Jamie missed of the startling variety. Any one of those chances taken had the potential to turn what was a very tight contest on its head. Those are the margins.

Cavan were exceptional in their scores to shots ratio - they had very few wides whilst I can recall us spurning a few great opportunities which were turned over and they got a point - a two point swing in a minute. The reality is that their attackers were not faced with as tight a defence as our attackers were and as a consequence Cavan shots at goals were of the more comfortable variety - our lads were under real pressure to get shots away and our wides tally reflected that.

I would also add that in games of tight margins, issues like free-taking come into sharp focus. Their keeper nailed a few absolutely brilliant - and important - frees from difficult positions whereas ours were missed. Yesterday highlighted the true context of that alleged conversation that Geezer is meant to have had with Jack Grugan.

I still think though that there is potential there and that we can look forward to the qualifiers with a bit of positivity. I think Super 8s is still a possibility with a favourable draw.

Lastly, management of course getting a bit of a kicking as we were beaten yesterday. Those doing so should consider some of those goal chances that we let go - all from players who everyone probably agrees that should be on, and which were game changing.

Management's fault of course!?!?

In no other county in the country is the manager talked about more than the players, and its got to the stage were I think it has a massive affect on the players and their confidence due to the supposed lack of support. Let’s get behind the lads, we’ve a great squad this year who play great football and have a real chance of the super 8s.

Sitting in the Gerry Arthur’s stand looking across the hill there was no lack of Armagh support. If any of the 4 sides were to be lifted by their support it was Armagh.

Thoroughly enjoyed today’s game. I’d say that Cavan will be beat by Donegal by 3 or 4 points in the final due to their poor inside forward line but they will make the super 8’s. I expect armagh to be there too!
Watched the first game which was dire compared to the second game. Cavan and armagh went at it 100% and the best team won.

Are you having a laugh? Donegal have a poor inside forward line? Do you watch football?

We struggled against Down.
Should have put Cavan away the first day out.
We lack composure in tight games and in the second have our forwards although quite good, took the wrong options too often.
Our defence was shaky and I put that down to wrong selections in certain areas from the off.
We have a good team of young lads coming through but our line is weak at making the right calls.
Jim McCorry & Mc keever , Hollywood lack imagination.
Murnin , P Burns starting was complete madness both were not fit.
We are a year off being fit for S8 .
Maybe next year.

Here we have a post which is critical of management. The difference with this one is the poster actually gives reasons why. Other people could learn this
