Casement Park

Maybe unpopular but think waste of money

always hated a match in casement and for all the hassle a great stadium could have been developed elsewhere

New Casement Park is finally going to happen.......

They’ve been saying that for nearly 10 years.

I do think a more central stadium is more suitable for Ulster finals and semis. Armagh ideally, or around Ballygawley. Themmuns talked about building a new stadium, so that would fit.

Anyway, now let’s just get it built. I usually have decent memories of Casement, and Belfast does need some sort of stadium, so let’s get on with it.

Totally agree
Huge white elephant
Parking going to be a huge issue which is a vital element for the 30,000 spectators that'll be there once or twice a year.
Belfast needs a stadium but not that size
Where's the extra money going to come from to pay for it?
Time for provincial councils to be disbanded - outdated setup

Maybe not as unpopular as you'd imagine. Dead handy for me if it does get done, but what a crap place to try and park at unless you get there the day before and camp. Kinda defeats having it 20 minutes away.

Can't say I hated games in it, as some great memories especially with schools games and of course some cracking games with Armagh (and the heartaches) but I guess this sums it up really

Fed up with soccer and rugby enjoying the same money we should have had only but for some daft reasons or other. I know there were some rumblings that locals wanted money like the Dubs around Croker were rumoured to have got. We'll never know the truth there, so if it goes ahead, it's guaranteed, love it or hate it, when our team/s play in it we'll be there!

So they got planning permission

Is there enough money to build it - material costs have risen up to 40% over the past 12 months
Do we still need it?

They’ve waited this long and spent millions to date, so I suppose they may as well build it now.

Increased ticket prices to pay for it maybe?

Well, the artists view looks great of Casement. An Ulster final would be a great occasion there. Just wish they’d hurry up and build the flippin’ thing.

How on earth is casement included?
It'll never be built
They've publicly said that they don't have the money and that the project has nearly doubled in cost
Take the monies and upgrade other county grounds and reduce casement to a 15,000 stadium.
Huge white elephant

And how croke park was left out is unreal
The residents round croke park will be happy, unreal how old trafford & anfield were left out

Apparently there's a one stadium per city limit except London.

Is this the mechanism that finally pushes through the Casement development?

Croke Park left out because it wouldn’t be hosting any of the major games. No point having a half full 80k stadium for a group match.

I'd have to say that my sense of it is that Casement's inclusion here makes it more likely than ever that it will actually get built. There undoubtedly will be a short fall in terms of money available but wouldn't it now be likely that Westminster will step in to fund any shortfall to keep the Euro project on schedule, as it was presented to UEFA?

I suppose so. But we've already seen the sideshows putting in their tuppence worth and the cycle continues

You mean millions worth!

It will take an investment of over £125million on top of what the GAA will contribute which is limited i think to £14.5 million. Other sports will be looking for parity of investment. I also think in the current climate the estimate is very low.

I think it will take a successful euro bid to have Casement built in the near future if not it could be mothballed for a long time.
