Friday/Saturday night games

I see Ballymacnab are putting forward a motion to have all matches at senior level moved to either Friday or Saturday nights instead of the traditional Sunday afternoon.

I know it’s been discussed a lot but is it worth the change? On the one hand it frees up Sundays for social/family life etc.

On the other hand it makes matches difficult to attend straight after work/college on a Friday evening, it clashes with LGFA on Saturdays (as well as soccer) and would also probably result in early morning training sessions across the county every Sunday morning.

I’d be in favour of a mix of fri/sun matches myself. Too much clashes with Saturday matches - if you go to Saturday matches only, there’s already soccer meaning there will be some crossover which will not suit some clubs forcing players to choose one or the other. Add to that LGFA - unless they kindly decide to forfeit their Saturday fixtures ( as we share the same referees) then that’s going to be a logistical nightmare.

But surely you can see why the players are pushing for it.
Sunday afternoon rules out any outings friday/saturday evenings or any weekend family time for older guys
Yes nothing wrong with the odd sunday game. I even liked someones suggestion of picking one highlight game over the weekend for a sunday afternoon and letting the " sunday traditionalists" like yourself bull go and watch a game of a sunday - also leading to a nice gate reciept for home club.

I'm not a fan of night football

I think a staggering of games across the weekend is definitely the way to go.
With regards to games on the Saturday, I don't think the lgfa should be pressured in any way to give up their slot. The double header idea is definitely worth considering as a way of promoting our games, however. I don't see this occurring a lot though, as both clubs would have to be home at the same weekend.
As for the suggestion of keeping a sunday free for a highlight game, I'm all for this. There have been plenty of weeks where I've went to watch my own club and been envious of the game just down the road at the same time!
I think Friday night is great for a game personally. However, consideration has to be given to players coming back from work (especially if they are playing at the opposite side of the county). That's why I think we should have a mix of days across the weekend for our games.

I think it’s a no brainer. I enjoy a Sunday afternoon game but asking young lads to give up their whole weekend to play a match isn’t on. Friday nights and Saturday games makes sense

It's the players who have to make the sacrifices so ultimately they should have the major say in any decisions. County Board, through the clubs, should canvas the players opinion.

And give players some sort of idea of dates to plan around for the next 6 months? Don’t be silly. The CB have only had since around august last year to plan.

fixtures can only be set once convention is sorted and committees have to be agreed at the first county board meeting in January.
Then clubs are consulted about dates of availability and so on

It takes a while to set fixtures
