Looking ahead

Congrats to Geezer getting another crack at it. Needs tactical support so hopefully he can make the right calls and get the right person/people in.

Would be great to see us in a league final next year and back in Croker for a quarter final at least - I wouldn't be so worried about Ulster if I'm honest.

Happy enough with Geezers reappointment. He deserved at least one more year. I do feel he needs to freshen up his backroom team and also introduce some new faces to the team. Main concern is who will do goals next year?

Decision is made and no matter how people may wring their hands or gnash their teeth it’s done now.

The majority of the best players are on the squad, maybe a few additions, so this is probably the most important club championship in years. New goalkeeper option given Ethan’s injury. A strong and mobile CHB. At least 1 more around the middle. Oisin O Neill’s return from injury could be a key addition and he is playing ok so far. I’ll be selfish and hope for a good club run for our own needs but if we won Armagh a run in Ulster would benefit him greatly and also a few others on the Cross squad, Cian and Tiernan McConville in nets, as I think they could be important.

Geezer will be under intense scrutiny from the outset but let’s see how it goes. Gain promotion back to D1 and that’s a big step. A trophy is needed and by that I don’t mean a McKenna Cup. Success breeds confidence which breeds success. To use a soccer comparison I’m happier being a Liverpool fan who wins CLs every so often than an Arsenal fan who qualified every year but won none. Titles are all that counts so an Ulster title is minimum next season.

On the goalkeeper front - Ethan's recent interview would suggest he'll be fine for next year. Did McPartlan play at a high level as a teenager or is that just a rumour? Could be a good option moving forward and for pens!!!

On the league next year - that is going to be seriously tough!! We'll be the big game for every team with the big crowd etc so it won't be simple, and I agree with bcb1 in that Geezer will be under serious pressure from the off.

We should really be going for the league in a strong fashion a la Derry and Dubs this year. Finishing 3rd from bottom like Meath and missing out on Sam doesn't bear thinking about but is a real possibility.
