I got in with the Ogs leading by two points to nil and for the majority of the half they held that lead, but were pegged back late on, when the Nab got a couple of late points to leave it 6-6 at the break.
The Nab got off to a dream start in the second half with the opening point to take the lead for the first time - a lead they would never relinquish. Jack Grugan then scored a goal - taking the ball out wide, with a defender on him and his back to nets, but he had goal on his mind and had the strength and confidence to turn the defender, come inside to increase the angle and blast the ball home at the near post. The Ogs seemed to be given a lifeline when the Nab were reduced to 14 men for a straight red following an off the ball incident, but it had absolutely no impact on the game, with the Nab essentially controlling the match despite being a man down. The second goal was made by a wonderful Jack Grugan flick pass to McParland who run in on the keeper and unselfishly passed to a free man to palm to the empty net.
The second match was a much tighter affair, although was relatively poor standard. The game itself was not helped by the terrible conditions which made ball handling very difficult. However for the most part Madden led, but there was never much more than two points in it. However Madden had the majority of the play, but had a significant number of wides, particularly in the first half.
I thought the match was there for the taking in the second half for Madden when they led by two but spurned two great goal chances within thirty seconds. The first was an excellent save by the keeper and the second a goal line block by a defender. That kept Granemore within touching distance and they pulled level very late on and then got the winner from a close range point, in injury time. The despair of the Madden players at the final whistle was an accurate reflection of how they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They looked the slicker team to me, created more chances, but could not put the opposition away. Fair play to Granemore - they showed great character to stay in it and pulled it out of the fire late on.
