Just home. One comment on ref. Horrendous!
Where does Hq get them from.
You would nearly think there was an agenda in place to prevent us from getting to an ulster final.
Just one man's thoughts.
What does anybody else think?

Livid tonight,Slan.

Agreed, agree, agree, he was atrocious  As poor a referee as I have ever seen, we were definitely playing against 16 for long periods of the match. He'll be gutted tonight that despite his best efforts he couldn't see Down over the line.

Rewatched the game in full there and I’m actually a lot more positive. Armagh were really the only side who tried to push forward on the ball. Down ridiculously defensive and lack of ambition even on the ball. Hardly tried to score.
We had some very poor decisions and performances but the final will be a lot different. A lot easier to play and express I think.
Also the ref was an utter ball bag.
Joke free for the first goal build up on mc Kay. Joke free for pick up on Duffy. Overturned free at end. 13 scores to 8 and showed composure to come back from 2 down with not much to go.
Not as much doom and gloom as when leaving the ground

Have to say I really enjoyed watching Rian O’Neill today and he seemed a different character than that of recent times. I prefer him out the field at the minute. Hopefully it leads to him being better and better as the season progresses as his performance will be fundamental to our sucess.

Oddly for this team who seem to excel on the chaos we remained fairly composed but sort of stuck in 3rd gear all day. Whilst I expected us to win much easier than we did but I never thought we were going to lose. That said, Down missed a few frees, the mark and one other good scoring opportunity that better calibre teams would take.

We need to learn from this if we don't want to be disappointed in another final. Especially dealing with teams that play a running game which can result in them scoring goals.

Improvements are needed for the next day but ultimately the key objective was to get to the final and that has been achieved so well done to all.

I’m pretty cool with what happened yesterday, okay we were poor really poor at times , the two goals we gave away were atrocious, but that game will do us 100 % more good than beating Down the way we did last year , winning a tight game and the final score the patience and execution is everything that has been missing from us the past 2 years , plus The turnover in the end by Murnin how the ref gave that as a free to Down after us getting the free originally is baffling ,obviously a big improvement needed for the final but the bench and Rian’s performance are another plus , I think we have a great chance of winning the final this year .

Diabolical, we allowed ourselves to be dragged down to their level and played right into their hands. Even the bullshit at half time was brainless and McGeeney would want to take a long hard look at himself. Laverty may be a total wanker but he’s not stupid and totally outfoxed our management team.

Having said all that, a wins a win and we can look forward to an Ulster final, massive improvements to make though.

The game was atrocious and we really underperformed. I was so annoyed watching and was thinking how after all these years is this the best we can do when a team slows the play down. It was like a carbon copy of the Monaghan game last year. We did what we needed to do to win and Down had no ambition at all, but a top team would have imposed themselves on that game. They wouldn't have allowed it to happen. They would have injected pace, power and aggression into the play, meaning that Down's tactics would have been nullified. I really couldn't believe that we were falling into this trap again.

Some players had very good games and everyone worked hard and were disciplined, but how we allowed it to happen was just so frustrating. Attack them with speed and purpose. Having men sprinting flat to the mat off the shoulder is incredibly difficult to be stop. You'll either be pulled down for a free or blow by them into a bit of space. No doubt you'll run into bodies at times and seeing men run into traffic is always frustrating, but at least it would show some purpose and desire to break the line, rather than a slow, laboured build up that allowed them to get set behind the ball and then seeing us run up blind allies. The scoreboard will start ticking over and they will have to come out more, opening the game up. Now maybe the two scrappy goals they got happened at times when we were starting to get a head of steam up and this gave them a buffer, which they could retreat behind.

It's great that we're into another Ulster Final and congratulations to the whole team. The amount of improving we need to do for the game is off the scale. Can't wait for two weeks time!

Don't get me wrong, the ref was abysmal. But I actually thought he got the Murnin call right after consulting the linesman. At first glance I thought Murnin clipped Johnson's heal, who then lost the ball when falling. Other than that he was brutal.

Am I mad, or does Liam Kerr (Down 11) clear out Aaron McKay, almost rugby union ruck style, immediately prior to their second goal trickling over the line?

Without this intervention, McKay collects the shot and clears. Good scrambled defending and no second goal. A lot of dubious big call by the officials yesterday, certainly had a large impact on the pattern of the game.

I think winning a tight semi final like that, though not good for supporters nerves, might do the team better than a total walkover. There is a lot to learn and improve on. Stand to be corrected but I think only one of the starting six forwards scored, Rory from frees (which were excellent all day). I would like to see Oisin O'Neill start or if sub, come on earlier. He is strong and direct. Nugent and Duffy also possible starters for me. We were unlucky for first goal, fantastic save by Blaine.

Down tactics were obvious from start, negative, defensive, off the ball fouling trying to provoke reaction + get someone sent off etc They turned it into a ugly scrap which almost worked for them. I think Armagh discipline has been excellent so far this year, we need to walk away from the tactical provocation and answer on the scoreboard. Delighted to be in final, congratulations to entire squad.

As regards the referee, nothing personal against him (it's not an easy job) but he was definitely not up to the standard required. He did our league match v Cavan but as that game was over before half time, he didn't have the chance to show us how bad he is. I do remember him blowing Blaine up a few times in second half and hopping ball. He also seems to have been involved in a few 'controversial' matches over in Connacht.

Interesting seeing different views on game. With some I wonder did they see the at all!

Down were always going to try and make it a tight scrappy game. While they set up very defensively they also targeted key players off the ball and had obviously visited that pool Tyrone use. As I was sitting at the town end I could see, in the first half, the number of times they 'bear - hugged' Armagh players to stop them getting involved in play. Not sure what the umpires were doing. As a unit our forward line is unlikely to have as poor a game again. Despite this I never thought we were going to lose.

For those giving out about management. Give it a rest. It is the middle of the season. Management can be discussed at end of year. I questioned subs at the time but they all had a positive impact and team discipline in the face of much provocation was much improved.

No need for me to comment on referee.
