Cullyhanna just deserved their win against a very decent Pomeroy team, but I felt Cullyhanna were the stronger more clinical team in the second half and the kick to win it off the weaker foot was fitting. Some interesting match ups in the game which will only bring Cullyhanna on. Casey scored a whopping point also with the left peg from about 50 yards just when the game was in the melting pot, this lifted the whole team. They will be hard to beat going forward.
Cross game was disappointing, especially as frost bite had set in by that stage. First half was even enough with a lot of things going wrong for Trillick once they reach the shooting zone, it looked like Cross had their measure. It must be stressed that they were overly reliant on AK to create anything, he actually looked up one time in frustration and there were no options.
Second half was forgettable from a cross point of view, Trillick got the key men on the ball and dropped their corner forwards a little deeper. They had the pace to trouble Cross. As bad as they were they were still as dogged as ever to break down. But Trillick stuck to the task and Brennans we cheeky outside of the boot one put the nail in the coffin. By that stage Clarke had lost the plot, he had supposedly lashed out before the red incident which went unpunished and then he clearly busted O'Donnell judging by the way he was helped off the pitch and straight to the medical room.
Most of the Cross big players just weren't up to the challenge, felt it was way too soon for young O'Neill and the other two were very ordinary. Was also disappointed in Cian albeit it he was well marshalled in a game were space was of the minumum. What is the story with Fitzpatrick only coming on? Fitness maybe?
Trillick had a good defensive structure and Cross just couldn't break a line, Morgan would have excelled in that game as he would certainly have had a go at it. Hard to see Trillick being at the level of Glen or Kilcoo and they are dependent or 3 or 4 players, better teams will be able to snuff them out.
I eventually thawed out by Ballygawley and called into Austins for a decent portion of chips. I met more Armagh ones in there than I did at the match
