Going to attempt to be as articulate as possible here after a disappointing but at the same time promising day for Armagh Football.
There were some lads there who put in heroic performances. Jemar Hall is so industrious, Soupy Campbell has it all, carrying the ball, scoring...Jamie in the 2nd Half, what a glimpse of his talent, and Paddy Burns giving Andy Moran a very, very early bath. There's many others, too many to name.
Rian, oh Rian. A raw, raw talent. If he can get a bit more distribution in to his game he'll be a great.
Aidan Nugent has been uncovered as a vital fulcrum for our attack. Learnt from the Cavan game by playing across the box to Rian for the goal. All you can ask is that lads learn.
Jarly Og was poor. I think he's a great prospect but is somewhat one dimensional and so much more is expected and promised from him due to unwarranted media attention. He'd a cracker against Down and the 1st Cavan game but has flattered to deceive somewhat since then. That being said, if he's managed in the right way and coached to his strengths he's a real prospect.
Blaine Hughes, a great lad. Not an intercounty goalkeeper. Simple as. His distribution has been lacking, and he simply should have stopped the first goal. The second goal he was in no man's land a little but possibly a little harsh. What other GKs have we in the county or playing outside the county who are eligible? Do the county hold trials for this?
I really hope Brendy Donaghy gives one more year. He deserves a Super 8s campaign and has more to give, he had a stormer against one if the top 6 teams in Ireland.
All in all, on a disappointing evening, as an eternal optimist, we'll get there. And to get there we need McGeeney. It's obvious that the 33 on the squad have bought in in a big way. This was the most encouraging year as an Armagh Fan for some time. A joy to watch at times from a relatively young team.
Keep the faith...Ard Mhacha Abu!
