Disclaimer I've had alcohol but now drinking tea.

First enough well done to all involved tonight great game.
We probably should have could have won but hey those are the breaks. We have played well this year yes with a bit more experience we probably would have done more but knocks like tonight are what give you experience. We are a team that are just starting to blossom and not sure why certain post are calling for management to hung, drawn and quartered. We are a team building dont see sense in changing management now. Soup was excellent tonight..before the season started of you told me we would finish our season with had playing well and a one defeat to Mayo in castlebar I'd have bitten your hand off.. on mark shield am I the only one who seen him get elbowed coming off end of first half.

Very dissappointed

Thought we were lucky to be in the game after mayos poor shooting before ht

Some great performances overall - Hall, Clarke, soupy, Forker, donaghy stood out

Actually thought Blaines knockouts were good tonight except for a couple of bad ones in first half. But was dissappointed he didn’t do better with the two goals

Excitement still there for next year! Hopefully we can add to squad and few lads get better with experience of this year
Thought couple of younger lads maybe got too excited/greedy today but cannot fault the whole teams effort all year!
Think we should appreciate the effort that goes in to getting this far and giving us supporters a sore throat !
As others have said

Lads, if you’d told any of us at the start of the year that we’d have stayed in Division 2, won an actual Ulster championship game ;) and came within a kick of the ball from an Ulster final, before giving a consistent D1 team a clipping in their own back yard and then go to Castlebar and play the only team in the past 5 years who have gotten within a country mile of Dublin and be coming home feeling like we left it behind us, you’d have been laughed at.

Thats the reality of the year we’ve had. I know we have still plenty to improve on to be considered elite, (as have 30 other teams in the country), the kickout issue is still there after all this time, as is the giving away soft fouls and as someone mentioned above, the stupid discipline issues like Shields today and Donaghy in Clones, but the positives with this group far outweigh the negatives.

I think its vital that we keep this team together, Clarke is a huge asset and I really hope he commits again, his scores in the second half today were superb, Donaghy was brilliant again so lets hope he wants another year at it also. This squad and a couple of additions (supposed to be a fella from Cullyhanna that can play a bit of ball if anyone knows his name?) and a fit Oisin O’Neill and Murnin plus whoever else comes in has the ability to get to an Ulster final next year and the super 8’s.

I’ve criticised McGeeney in the past, but today is not the day to be calling for his head although I thought he made a few bad calls, the players left everything out there today so fair play to all involved, just a pity we couldn’t get over this hurdle.
Best post of the evening IMO

In terms of goalkeepers to put at least some bit of pressure on Blaine and contest the jersey, who are we thinking about?

Small shortlist I can think of off the top of me head are as follows;

•Sean O'Hanlon-Killeavy- Has trained with and been involved in squads under Geezer. A very strong shot stopper. Not entirely sure of his kickouts as I've not seen enough but more than capable.

•Gerard McGarvey-Silverbridge- Midfielder come GK for Silverbridge primarily due to injury. Serious kickout, high ball specialist. Had taken a step back this but I believe he's back in the Silverbridge fold. Shot stopping his weakness although I've seen him save a few point blankers, most notably against Killeavy in a county final. We'd love to have him back full time for us in Blue and Yellow though so perhaps, selfishly, I hope he gives another year at club football at least. Would be a great asset to Armagh though.

•Connor Burns-Forkhill- Brother of Paddy. Played club football in Dublin I believe. Had some sort of all-star in Dublin Senior Football Championship as a GK in the recent past. Came back to Forkhill. They were relegated that year though so hard to know. Enjoys the social life and living away so inter county may not be the scene but more than capable.

I've only the South Armagh glasses on though so would love to hear other options and suggestions. It's an increasingly important and dominant position and somewhere we're struggling.

Hopefully some say we play all our best players and see what happens!!#ross McQuillan!!! Every bit as good as rian but somehow not good enough!!
How many times do we have to point out to clowns like this that Ross McQuillian is an u20 and he is not permitted to play senior until the u20s are out. What part of that do you not understand you absolute pillock.

Not long home and just watched the two Mayo goals again, didn’t realise how close both were to Blaine. He’ll be disappointed with both.

In relation to his kick outs, it’s unfair to put all the blame on him. Not sure how it looked on tv but it was clear from the stand that there was very little movement from our players for our own kick outs and Mayo pushed up on them and were very disciplined. In contrast we failed to push up on the Mayo kick out, although it looked like this was a failure of the players rather than the game plan. At every Mayo kickout Donaghy was quick to get out and mark the wing half forward, this should have allowed us to go man to man but we always seemed to have a player lost in no mans land while mayos keeper had an easy out. In general mayo’s movement was better and they must have won the vast majority of their own KOs.

Before I go to bed, please God ensure Donaghy gives it another year. Talk all you want about the great young lads coming through but Brendy was brilliant tonight again. Bar the knee incident he’s been our best player this year and his absence against Cavan was obvious. This team can now push on into division 1 but we need to bring in one or two more lads and not lose any.

My response- before the dust settles -(which may change): pure pride to be an Armagh supporter first and foremost. The people that go out of their way to follow, support and invest in our team is unreal. Game wise - Jemar Hall simply unreal, Soupy unreal, Jamie 2nd half, Donghy in defense with Paddy, Paul etc. Ilove Blaine, great shot-stopper but he's a number 2. Simply too small for the position. The goals beat us. Great potential for next year - thanks for all lads!!

Hello all, im probably the last man ye want to see on here. I don’t want this to sound patronizing, but hard luck lads. I’ll put the hands up and say Deegan rode ye side ways!. He’s done it to us in the past, so I feel yer pain. No point going into too much analysis at this hour, but ye gave us the fright of our lives in that last few minutes, really thought yer boys would reel us in. I know ye probably don’t want to hear this, but Its my first time seeing your team in the flesh, and I can tell ye, ye have the respect of every Mayo person who watched that game. Thats a team going in the right direction, that was a tougher game than Roscommon, (we were shocking against them and lost by a point) but tonight we played well and just about fell over the line.

Theirs a nice fluidity to yer play, and with O’Neill and Clarke up top, I see promotion to div 1 coming next year, and a long championship run. Fair play to all that travelled the atmosphere was electric, and its a game to be remembered. Winter well now, and we could be meeting in super 8’s next year. All the best .

He didn’t play any under 20s!
Bullshit he’s one best players in Armagh but cudnt even get in the squad because he had the audacity to go for 7 day austrailian trails in Sydney! Picked ahead rain Oneill by the way! Play the two them we win simple as that!!
He was with the U20s this year. So what if he was picked ahead of Rian O’Neill, that’s a different sport

Agree with all of that esp re Donaghy. That tackle yesterday on Keegan (I think) as he was running through was something else.

Fair play for being humble in victory lad. I agree with you on Deegan and like someone else has said, him laughing while he does it makes it even worse. But no point blaming the ref because we had the chances to win that game. It’s a shame you’s have so many injuries because I’d love to see Mayo back in a final with a full deck and give that other shower a good rattle. All the best for the rest of the year and like you say, hope to be meeting in the super 8’s next year.

Anyword on Keegans injury by the way? Hopefully nothing too serious but didn’t look good at the time.

Well folks still in Mayo and have had a few last night so bear with me ....

Great place for to go for a match the end of the earth but fair play what a fantastic stadium and support they have , very close to us when we were going strong in the nouthies maybe without the buckfast .

Ref a toolbox ...check my posts, I never crib about refs this tool had me smashing the seat in front of me ...sorryMayo lady nothing personal .... honorable mention to Paddy Burns I’ve given him a bit of stick about his behavior but Jesus a smashing game saw off Andy Moran , really good defending .Jamie excellent and a Mayo lady in the pub asked me about Jemar saying what a player he was and said Rian is an outstanding prospect,

Yes I am disappointed . should we have won ? maybe at least extra time anyway , then I think Mayo have been in 3 All ireland finals over the past years and while they ain’t what they used to still I can’t fault our lads , they died with their boots on I know it’s a cliche and we lost but I hope it a watershed moment , when we lost to Donegal in Croke Park I thought this was the turning point we would kick on but we are back in the same place we were then , I think we have the makings of a solid team with some lads that need to develop and some more might come on the scene . We are a small county if we get injuries or a few lads walk away then we could be on Div 3 but we could also be a Div 1 team playing on the super 8s and Ulster final it’s finally balanced.

I think Kieran will do the right thing for Armagh he’s probably frustrated that we are only back on the verge of progress like when he took over I’m 50/50 on this , but he deserves time to think it over .

When I think about the football we have played this year versus a few years ago last night it’s brilliant , Armagh have lit up the championship, these are the matches I want to go and see and bring my family too, win or lose , to walk out with pride that’s all you can ask for .

It's the morning after and last nights loss is still hard to take. We had every opportunity to win that game, but let it slip. Those are the fine margins that separate the best from the rest and we aren't quite there yet. But we certainly look like we have the potential to get there. I think that goalkeeper is a position that needs to be looked at. Hughes has done well over the last few years. His kick outs last night weren't great for a while, but then he also hit some smashing ones. The two goals conceded would have been stopped by a top class keeper. It's very hard to just get one of these for the modern game because it's such a specialised position. Ideally someone who is bigger and may need to develop their kicking game maybe required.

Defensively we did ok last night. Darren Coen shot the lights out and McKay had a tough game on him. Having James Morgan available would have been the type of player that could have shut him down (or fouled him constantly!!). Paddy Burns had a great game. Brendan Donaghy was immense. People on here were saying that he was 'finished'. Last night and against Monaghan he showed what a top class player he is and how crucial he is to the team. Hopefully we'll get another season out of him, as we don't have a ready made replacement. Greg McCabe, Aidan Forker or Ryan Kennedy might be that player in the long term. However, we have to stop this habit of stupid lazy fouling because it keeps costing us. That pull from Mark Shields in front of the posts, which got the free pulled up was just ridiculous and proved crucial in the end. It can't go on if we want to be up there with the best. Even though the best teams are cynical, they know where, when and how to do it.

I thought Jarly Og Burns and Rian O'Neill had quiet enough games and it showed that the step up against top teams is a big one and they still have a lot of development to go before they are the finished product. But it's so exciting to have these players for the future. Clarke and Campbell had massive second halves and really showed that they are in that top tier of footballers. Hall had another fine game and has really become such an important player for us. But again, like the Cavan games, we didn't take our chances when they presented themselves. This is another area of our game that holds us back. Our shot selection last night was poor at times too. Guys shooting wildly when off balance, or from impossible angles, when holding onto the ball and working a better shot would have been the smarter option.

Surrendering their kick out at times really cost us, as Mayo love to run the ball from deep and have the athleticism to do so. When we forced them to go long to midfield, they struggled. In terms of going forward and who should be in charge, it's hard to say. McGeeney has undoubtedly improved our team and done serious work behind the scenes to get the right structures in place for the long term benefit of Armagh football. Of course he will have his detractors and has taken a good couple of years for us to get where are now. Mistakes have been made this season in games by management which can't be ignored. I do think that if people think that by changing management, it will make the big difference, I'd love to know who and how.

We've got a long time to wait until next year, but I feel with the same players back and a few more fully fit and available (Murnin, Oisin O'Neill), as well as the talented youngsters there, we've got a good team to at least be competitive in Ulster (Donegal and Tyrone look a different level to everyone), get promoted to Division 1 and make that step into the Super 8s.

You can’t be finished with those teabags that quick!

But seriously lad, you sound like a stuck record. You’re not doing Ross McQuillan any favours and I’d say the lad would be embarrassed at your constant harping on about him.
