Tyrone in a relegation battle.

If Mayo really want that NFL final place they have to beat Tyrone.

Tyrone would then have to beat Kerry.

The Dublin win has made things interesting. Donegal are not as safe as they might think with five points. Dublin still need to win and could beat Donegal next weekend meaning Donegal would have to play us in a survival game. In fact, Armagh could have a hand in deciding Tyrone's NFL fate.

If Monaghan beat Kildare then they are safe. It would leave Dublin, Kildare, Tyrone and Donegal in a relegation battle.

Andrew Murnin has that wonderful ability to score goals. On another point, I thought the commentator on BBC coverage was totally biased towards Armagh, just saying.

If next weeks results went as follows we are in for an interesting final round of fixtures with four teams fighting for survival

Armagh vs Kerry - Armagh win would put us in a great position for NFL Finals but a loss wouldn't affect us.
Tyrone vs Mayo - A win for Mayo would help them achieve D1 final and a loss for Tyrone would put them in pole position for relegation.
Monaghan vs Kildare - A Monaghan win would ensure D1 survival while a draw or loss would drag five teams into a relegation battle.
Dublin vs Donegal - A win or draw for Donegal would ensure survival. Dublin loss would mean they are teetering towards relegation.

Kerry and Armagh do not have an influence on the relegation battle so I will only show the bottom four. It could be likely the table will look like this next weekend.

Donegal 5
Monaghan 5
Dublin 4
Kildare 4
Tyrone 3

The final fixtures would be

Dublin vs Monaghan
Kildare vs Mayo
Tyrone vs Kerry
Armagh vs Donegal

If Dublin and Kildare win and Donegal and Tyrone lose they are both relegated.
If Donegal, Monaghan and Tyrone Win Dublin and Kildare are relegated.

Tyrone based on current form would be my favourites for relegation. Mayo want that league final and some sort of revenge for the AI final and Kerry won't be taking it easy on them.
If Dublin are revitalised Donegal might find it difficult to beat them in their next league game.
Kildare are fighting for survival more so than Monaghan so a draw is possible.

It was silly rather than dirty. The dub made a complete meal of it
Silly, yes. Dirty, yes. He does that on the pitch, player is at little risk of injury.

It was outside the pitch. Concrete, metal gates, steps, advertising hoardings, sharp objects etc etc. His actions put his opponent at risk of injury. It’s 100% a straight red in my opinion.

I know Geezer was doing it first with the sweeper keeper (Courtney v Cavan, less said the better) but I think the rafferty experiment will end in tears. We're all copy cats in the GAA and everyone is trying to copy Morgan, who's good at it and Beggan who is less good and has already had his trousers pulled down. As @bcb1 mentioned, ethan is keen to take that extra couple of steps and solo, rather than just be an extra body to help us get out (which is what Blaine was doing v Dublin/Tyrone to be fair to him).

We are naive if we think that top teams won't have a plan for that come summer. We will find ethan being allowed to come a few meters more than usual with the ball, then bang. Big press and a quick break. There won't be too many making apologies for Geezer or Ethan on here when it does end up costing us.

What I don’t understand is what adavantages Rafferty gives us, bar maybe a longer kickout. For an outfield player he looks extremely uncomfortable on the ball at times, 2 or 3 times he was soloing the other night and fumbled it, also kicked a couple of kickpasses straight to Kildare men.

Definitely not as good on the ball as Hughes, who against Tyrone I thought gave us that option of an extra man without taking a risk. His kickouts are also far more accurate.

A top team would have punished us far more the other night.

I agree with all of this. The only advantage ethan might give us is physical presence in the square? He is a midfielder by trade I would say and might be better under a high ball. but then again we haven't exactly been hammered with high balls in recent years and i wouldn't have said it was something we needed to very urgently address.

It is good to start developing options in goal and I wonder how long it will be before teams can rotate players in goal. If a midfielder needs a couple of minutes to recover energy wise could they be put that player in goal whilst they are given 10 or so minutes to recover whilst the goalkeeper moves outfield? I would be almost certain that would leave us vulnerable though i.e. if there was a square ball.

i thing Ethan has done reasonably well in goals since brought in. people forget he did do goals for the minors. He give away one kick out the other night leading to a point but other than that his kick-outs hit the spot and some handling errors from the players receiving was the issue. His height presence gives a full forward something to think about like am i going to go for this and get this huge goalkeeper clattering into me. personally i don't think he needs to come past the 45, but stay as an option for his long range passing is excellent if the ball is on. Blaine is unlucky but his last day out against Monaghan was a disaster and it hasn't took opposing supporters long to work out that noise and jeering forces him into a mistake. and the high looping kick-outs when he forces it long was a dream for Darren Hughes and the lads to run on to. It seems some on here are just waiting for Ethan to make a huge mistake so they can jump on it. Goal-keeper is now the most high profile position on the field thanks to the quality of Cluxton . there aren't too many Cluxtons out there as lots of counties have found.

In fairness he (or someone anyway) dealt with the high balls well on Saturday but for me Blaine hasn’t put a foot wrong bar one or two poor kickouts vs Monaghan.
