Really enjoyed the second half tonight, decent game considering. Thought Soupy was excellent, also some nice play from Clarke, forker & o neill in 2nd half. Exciting times in the forward division, though I still have concerns in defence and mid field

This win feels more significant (if you can call any win in the McKenna Cup significant) than the one on Sunday. Obviously Monaghan were a long way short of a full team, but it's still encouraging to win and get another good test on Sunday against a top team. It's difficult to judge where we are in terms of development and our ability to compete in Division 2, but winning three games, having the likes of Hughes, Rafferty and Murnin to come back and a chance to play Donegal on Sunday as further preparation for the start of the National League, are all positive building blocks.

Burns will come into that ful back line as well you would hope.

An encouraging start to the season with three wins from three and a +40 score difference but in reality last nights game was the only one we can take anything from. The first two games were over as a contest within 15 minutes.
At one stage last night it looked like we were going to get a rude awakening to our real place in the world but all credit to both the team and management they got to grips with a very different task and pulled off a morale boosting victory. Although it is only the McKenna Cup, Monaghan were there to win and had a decent side out even bringing out some of the big guns to try and get over the line.
There is certainly evidence of the formation of a good team and team spirit and competition for places will be ferocious particularly in the attack. To think that you have Mini, Ethan, Murnin, Oisin O'Neill, Ross McQuillan, Jason Duffy and Jemar Hall all fighting to get in along with the seven that played last night is incredible. Defensively we were sound once we got to grips with the different style of play Monaghan posed and we also have Morgan, Hughes, Donaghy and Burns to come in there. I would like t see a more settled midfield though but again there are options with Sheridan, Grimley, Burns, Casey and Charlie all options.
Donegal is another test but one that I am looking forward to. Games like these at this stage are invaluable and although a win is not of great significance it could do wonders for confidence.

Hmmm yeah, but as @Diarmi said, we did quickly get it sorted at the back. Still looked rocky (no not Balboa) at times, but worked bloody hard for most of the game.

What was delightful was we never ever panicked at any time and just stuck to the plan.
Earlier in this thread I predicted two from three. God it's great to be wrong!!

What was annoying was the support getting on the backs of our players if they moved laterally with the ball. Yes it can be frustrating to watch, but then within a few moments the patience paid off and we went forward and scored. As supporters we need patience too and stay behind the lads whatever they're doing. It's the result that counts, not how we're getting there.
The REF!! was bloody annoying last night. Crap he was not, but he let things go one way and then when we got within scoring range he blew us for something similar. Did he not realise we were trying to do his fellow county men a favour?? On the other side, some of our tackles were very high and could have cost us dearly, if they were spotted.
Can't be 100% sure, but I think it was a bit unfair on Jamie for his second yellow considering his marker walked away smiling and I believe was the instigator. I'm told it was for persistent fouling. To be fair he had acted the maggot a few times that he got away with. He has to remember he's not still in New York and the opposition here are serious about trying to win and playing the ref.
That goddamn 3 handpass rule HAS to go. It's destroying good attacks. The man running off the shoulder is almost entirely defunct. The hand pass has been a basic skill as long as I remember. Why penalise it now? What's next the solo run? One bounce and one tap and then pass? Stop ruining the game.

Oh yeah and what was annoying: Please please please someone from county reading these - we know who you are, switch off the announcer after 3 seconds. We have travelled for years to every ground in the country that some of our teams have played in and never ever do we get lectured to like that. For heavens sake please make the announcement in Irish and then English, surely, but leave it at that and turn the damn thing down a bit. Listen in other grounds that are just as respectful to our native language including Croke Park to how it can be done. We're there to enjoy a game, not get earache. It's the biggest complaint I hear at the best stadium in Ulster. Not everyone is bloody deaf

Just in general Pat. Last night was just a bit pronounced at half time when they were doing that £100 draw thingy and he loves the sound of his own voice, but he just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. Last night wasn't as bad as some, but what other ground do we have to sit through 30 minutes of just reading the teams out and we all know we're not allowed to stand in the aisles or in front of the control room or leave the car park - you've been there and know what I mean!!!

It was a tough watch last night and really took our players a worryingly long time to get up-to-speed with Monaghan's second string who were well drilled and then ran out of steam (I fancy Monaghan to get relegated this year). Maybe there was a hangover from the walkovers over the last two 'games'. Much better second half but I do agree that we seem light at the back?
We got much more out of that game than the first two and Donegal is another chance for a couple of lads who weren't up to speed last night to once again stake a claim. As for Soup and Jamie - cotton wool please until Newbridge!!
