Anyone know how many first team players Donegal were missing yesterday. I know Jamie Brennan came on but that must be 99% of their championship team. Mark Curran at corner back is the only name I didn't recognise.

Agree has to be close to their first choice team.
Think Armagh can come away happier given the amount of players you would consider first 15 that were not involved. We have a lot more room for improvement than Donegal

Soupy, Duffy, 2 O’Neills. Who else would be first 15 that didn’t start yesterday? One or 2 of Crealy, McPartlan and Niall Grimley?

Hope enough Rafferty gets a chance at midfield or half forward when he’s fit. McQuillan, Nugent, TK all didn’t even feature yesterday. Very hard to know what our first 15 is at the minute or what it will be.

Potentially Morgan if fit

We are in a good place, if we win our next two games we are back in division 1. Whilst you can never take either Cavan or Fermanagh for granted you would like to think we should beat both.
Wouldn't it be nice to be heading to Pairc ui Chaoimh with promotion secured and be able to enjoy he stadium and city.

Have to suspect Donegal aren’t showing their hand at this stage either and will engage in different tactics against Derry. High chance they field a 2nd team if they reach the league final given the way McGuiness is interviewing.

Apart from Murnin none of our forwards looked particularly dangerous against that defense, I hope we focus on using the remaining league games to sharpen our attack. We’ve had chemistry issues with Rian and Turbo last year, need to get that worked out.

Odd sort of a game that.

Tight on the scoreboard but not a great game. A few spectacular scores but an absence of quality elsewhere.

I felt that Donegal edged it and if any team deserved to win it was them. But in terms of a forward look we have more to bring to the table in terms of missing players. It was also clear from the McKenna cup that under McGuinness they aiming to hit the ground running from the start of the season so I would be surprised if they times their peak for later in the year. So there are grounds for optimism.

Blaine did well again. Nice penalty save which will further boost his confidence but it’s his general play in terms of positioning, kickouts, dealing with the high ball etc that get called on in every game that really give us all confidence in him.

I don’t think we were poor yesterday but I do think we were workmanlike. So optimism yes but also a need for further improvement. Don’t think the 3 sides left to face can muster the same sort of challenge as Donegal so I think we need to show a ruthless streak against them.

And a pet hate: fans who confuse the number on the jersey with the position the player plays in.

Only gripe with me yesterday is the game management at the end and letting another slender lead slip away in the dying minutes , In fairness we worked our chance well at the end to win the match but we didnt execute it . I think both teams might meet in Croke park in April and it will be a higher scoring more attacking match . Hopefully now we get more game time into Rian and a few others in the next 3 games .

I heard ya'll

Could I please just ask that if you feel the need to request a post should be removed that you "don't" quote it in a reply. If the original poster does delete it, it will remain visible in the quoted part of the post and therefore brings flak on the OP when they're realised they were wrong and had done the right thing. It then saves moderators having to edit other posts. Still feel free to message me and let me know and we will always quietly take a look

Can we maybe stick with a goalkeeper in goals please.
Or bring one in for the penalty shootouts at least.
What are the substitution rules re bringing a goalkeeper out the field and putting in a different goalie? So even if Rafferty played a while in goals in the later part of the game bring him out the field and put Blaine in.

Sickening to not be coming away with a win there but relief at the same time given they had a penalty saved by Blaine and your man shit the bed when through one on one.

Positives first as always- great crowd, great to see the flags there and the noise was unreal. Some of our play was great to watch today up until the shot which let us down a good few times.

McElroy I thought was superb, got through serious work and linked the play and even got a score or 2 himself if I remember rightly great to see given the stick he has got in the past. Blaine was unreal we barely lost a kick out all day and the penalty save- lets just say we could have been doing with him a time or 3 in the last couple of years. First class. Conor O’Neill was brilliant especially in the first half, driving us forward and had a couple of excellent scores. As for Murnin- some performance for a fella thats supposedly done, covered serious ground, won us kickouts when we needed to go long and obviously did the business in front of the posts too. Conaty didnt have as flashy a game as the last few days out but worked hard and got a great score in the first half.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing Rian back, he’s got that extra wow factor that very few players in the country have and we’ll need him firing if we want to compete with the big boys this year. A pity he didnt catch that first shot properly, but then goes a scores from a crazy angle. Few weeks and he’ll be cutting teams to shreds.

Few negatives obviously- would have to question the decision to take Forker off- felt we lacked a leader to dictate play, surely a fella with his experience should be trusted to play on a yellow card? Conor O’Neill another one I thought could have been left on although maybe he had an injury? Another criticism was that McElroy was clearly signalling for a good while that he needed to come off and was half hobbling around and nothing was done, fair play to the lad he gritted his teeth and soldiered on but surely fresh legs were the answer there.

Said on here during the week that Jarly Og didn’t look fit- I take that back it is laziness, has a great burst of speed to get forward and seems to be in slow motion when he has to track back. Between that, carrying the ball into contact and seemingly being unable to kick the ball I don’t think he deserves his place. Disappointed that Oisin O’Neill didnt get his chance today, think his physicality would have been a great help around the middle and he would have likely got on the end of a few of the moves towards the end.

Turbitt was very disappointing today, not doing enough defensively imo, missed a scorable enough free and again just not at himself against higher quality opposition- well and good destroying shite teams but needs to up his game against the better ones. No doubting his talent we just need more from him.

Apart from those couple of gripes, think management have to be praised, we seem to be playing more positive than last year, the kickout issue is working. I know we failed to win another tight game, but they can’t be blamed for Rian missing from the D in front of the nets, Grugan missing a tap over free, Jarly Og not being willing to kick from 14 yards and Soupy missing handy scores among other mistakes.

Think I’ve ranted on enough now- overall more positives to take from that than negatives, Cavan game is massive now so hopefully get the same support out and get a win that’ll more or less see us promoted. Sitting nicely, seen we haven’t a whole pile to fear from Donegal and still lots of lads to come back in.

He was the player who blocked the goal chance practically on the line, that strikes me as exceptional defending.
