National Football League 2024

I think a lot of people are jumping the gun thinking that Derry will be in the Ulster final. They might well be but they have to get past Donegal first and then most likely Tyrone or Monaghan.
There tends to be a lot of contradictions in football, we talk about how Kerry and Dublin don't need to peak until the quarter finals and this is a positive thing but then also say you can't beat competitive games so I'm not sure which is true. This year Derry will have played all the top teams in the league and will then need to beat some of the best teams in the country to get to an Ulster final whereas we can get to the same stage by playing a much lower standard of opposition. You would imagine we will be the fresher team by that stage and maybe that could be enough to give us the extra edge required?????

Hard to know. We could end up coming in undercooked having not played any good teams (maybe that happened last year?) or we could come in fresher, who knows.

Obviously only the league but from what we’ve seen so far you’d have to make Derry favourites against those 3.

I agree - Donegal / Tyrone v Derry. Anything can happen. Derry be favs alright but no shock if they were beat.

Derry might be 2/1 favourites against those teams, but there is only an even money chance of beating both of them.

They have lads like Glass with the mentality they've shown the last few years to move from all ireland club final losses and wins straight into intercounty league the following week. Hard to see them complaining about the schedule. They don't even really have many key players over 30, I think rodgers is under it then the rest are younger than him. McKaigue looked worse for wear last year, think he's the only one they really have to worry about.

Kerry & Dublin can afford to not peak until later in the season because they have players, coaches & backroom staff with packed trophy cabinets and bags of experience of playing in finals. It's a totally different psychological position to a Derry or Armagh who will be the first in a generation to even play in a final.

It's a league semi final
Championship is what matters to them
The hurling semi final between Limerick and Tipp last year had 11800 in Limerick. In this case the Cork venue is only used as Thurles is closed. Kilkenny city to Thurles is 40 mins, but it is 2 hours to Cork, so that might not encourage a crowd.

What’s the chances of a special Easter Sunday
As I see the return train Sunday night booked up
A special to Cork, coming back after the game, would have been a good idea. But public transport in Ireland does not concern itself with such things.
