It makes complete sense to cancel all games and training at all levels. It's the type of atmosphere that the virus could spread so easily. The lack of hand washing you see in the toilets at the Athletic Grounds on game day (and any other stadium in any other sport in any part of the world) would make you shudder! I don't think there should be a rush to get the games back up and running, just to fulfill fixtures. People's health and the health of their families is at risk and is far more important than any football match will ever be. If the season is turned upside down, no relegation or promotion from the various divisions and the Championship is re-altered or cancelled so be it. The worst thing they could do is rush back, while people are still sick and spread it again. A friend of mine, who is half Italian, her Grandad past away last night in northern Italy having contracted it. He'd otherwise been a fit, healthy, if eldery, man. That's what we're dealing with here and it's not going to be resolved any time soon, so every precaution should be taken and no rash decisions made just to satisfy sponsors or fans, who want to see games back on before it's absolutely safe to do so.
In purely football terms it's extremely frustrating to have our promotion charge halted. Tonight's game against Roscommon would have been an exciting game, the trip to Clare a good bit of fun and a league final in Croke Park something to savior. Hopefully it will be resolved and we get to finish the season.
