Lads, first of all please don't respond to John Murphy. WUMs don't come much more obvious than that.

Secondly, I'm afraid tonight was a reality check. The reality is, certainly for me, that we are not a Top Eight side. Roscommon have better players than us and are a better team than us. As simple as that.

That said, there was an opportunity to win tonight but there were too many of the unforced errors and lack of discipline that has been prevalent in recent years.

Roscommon forwards were also able to win their one to one battles, which meant they could progress to our 21 and either take a score or win a free. Our lads can't seem to do that.

I've bemoaned for a long time our inability to break a tackle, and the issue actually predates the careers of many playing tonight. Poor tackling and poor discipline have also been on-going issues and they were there again for all to see.

Disappointing result and disappointing performance but I feel it is a reflection of where we are.

Funny how people seem to be focusing on certain defenders yet look at the yellows the forwards received once they started losing their heads.
It's the defenders who got stuck in not like some of the forwards. Others didn't show at all

All depends on next week and how the championship goes. If we go up and reach the Ulster final would you say the same?
If, If, if....
How many chances - how long do we keep 'hoping?
In any case - my answer to your question is 'Yes. He simply does not have it to be a top manager.

Rufus, agree with all this except I think we have at least as good as players as Roscommon but they are definitely a better team.

Regarding McGeeney’s future, who knows how much longer he’ll be in post, probably as long as he wants.

But you can quote me on this in the future, when he eventually leaves Armagh there is not a division 1 or 2 county in the country that will take him.

Actually thought our defending was excellent for the first 25 mins until Shields gave away the first needless free.
Kennedy going off was a big loss as he was doing well on Cox. Mc Kay has struggled now for a while.
Paddy burns I thought was disappointing. One on one defending and his kick passing was also poor.
Niall Grimley didn’t look fir while Soupy didn’t look too good at the end. At this stage I’d also wonder if mark shields can really offer anything positive compared to what is on the bench.
Without the two o neill We would have lost by 9/10. There seems to be a distinct lack of pace in the team. Jamie was never a rocket but now seems slow almost.thinking u can catch a mark from a free also shows up a man not playing any club football.
Grugan slows things up massively now too. We are very restricted in tactical options because Of this.
Jemar will rightly get banned. I noticed it immediately and texted a group chat to say he’s in trouble for that.
Along with Kennedy’s knee and Rians red a very poor display of discipline.

Ive been bemoning the poor tackling for years now and its still happening and its still the same culprits.

Armagh club football would be fairly hard hitting and a lot of stupid tackles would be let go, you dont get away with that at county level and its showing. So maybe there is an issue to be addressed in the way armagh refs operate.

Im loathed to single anyone out, but ive never really thought Kennedy offered much more than anyone else we have and along with Morgan I feel he is capable of a few moments of madness. So the buck has to stop with the coaches in charge who pick them knowing the likely outcome. Armagh offer up 3 scores per game from sheer petulance and thats a hell of a handicap on any team.

We looked like we ran out of gas as well and Roscommon knew they just had to run directly at us and draw frees. They won the game on sloppy armagh tackles and decision making and to a lesser extent possibly the game they got against donegal last weekend.

Armagh are not a young team, and in manys lockdown and a shortened club season could impact us more than most. We need to unearth a few new defenders or a new defensive style of play based on proper positioning and discipline. I say positioning becuase when we go to close the middle channels we invaribly collapse down both wings, this is poor coaching in my opinion. The shortened club season however means the panel we have now is largerly what we will have come the league in February 2021, so we dont have much scope for scouting.

Also, Armagh badly need a chb, we may also need to plug a gap here and convert a mobile midfielder to play the position. I know sheridan was tried here, im also thinking Ethan Rafferty as he had got back to fitness and played well for the club, but he can be poor at times in the tackle.

But overall the biggest problem we have at the minute is that opposing teams generally find a way to figure us out, and that needs address. Westmeath was a point dropped from a 7 point lead in the game. There are problems in this team and they run deep. We have 4 or 5 very very good players and fill out the team and squad with decent club players, so realistically we are a top 10 or 11 team on our day, I dont think we are a top 8 team. But remember we are all familiar with division 3 and 4 over the years as well. So consistently staying in div 2 and threatening promotion to div 1 the odd time. A lot of counties would take that. Apologies as I didnt mean this to be as long.

With regards to Hall 's offence - and I am certainly not his biggest fan - but I do not think it was gouging or anything like that. I think he meant to pull the player away from the keeper and just happened to pull his face
Looked bad but not with the worst intentions.
Speaking of the keeper - that is another problem position. He is too small, not good hands - and as for the kick-outs? There has go be better in the county!

In fairness that is a good Roscommon team. Attack may well be the better side of our team but did we ever look like scoring a goal?

I’d like to see the likes of Jamie Cosgrove Stephen Cusack get a game in the Armagh full back line. Paddy Burns shouldn’t be allowed on the pitch again this year after his pathetic performance tonight, miles off his man all night and gave up on a number of occasions in the second half. Management should of had the sense to take him off. On another note I think Aidan Forker should be played as a forward where he most effective, it shows how badly we’re struggling at the back when we have to sacrifice one of our best forwards to perform a defensive role.
