Not McGeeneys biggest fan but can’t blame him for Kennedy being stupid enough to drop the knee or to throw the arm over his mans shoulder, penalty all day. Also not his fault the likes of Burns and Clarke didnt bother playing for their clubs this year and weren’t match fit.

However we have to blame him for not using the outstanding forward we have, Grugan, Campbell and Jamie were far far too deep.

Usual story with the O’Neills, wouldn’t like to see where we would be without them. Morgan and Kennedy were decent overall but the usual story stupid things let us down. We also need to sort our kick out strategy and this is where I think management need to cop some blame. People will look the Hughes as the problem but usually he is solid and we don’t exactly have anyone else putting their hand up to be number 1 as far as I can see. It’s an overall strategy we seem to be lacking.

Overall given how much we were disrupted with Covid in the build up I don’t think we were too bad, considering where Roscommon have been at.

I've been saying it on here for years - our general discipline is terrible and our tackling is still v poor and v rash. McGeeney must be pulling his hair out at times (I hope). Roscommon cut through us easily on numerous occasions - we simply cannot deal with a team that runs at us. Our attack is super but unfortunately we're going to have to play v defensive to stand a chance in Ulster.

I hope we don’t see the blanket defence again next time out, although some will argue it held Roscommon to only 4 scores in the first half I think that was more so down to Roscommon’s rustiness and poor marksmanship that they only scored that much as they did kick 7 or 8 wides from scoreable positions in the opening half. The system seems too energy sapping for our players who aren’t as well conditioned as other top teams and we have our top marksmen back behind the ball. Even when Donegal pioneered the blanket defence they didn’t find success until they realised they had to leave theyre top attackers up in the forward line.

Does playing very defensively not allow the other team free men to run at us? We had 15 men in our own half last night.

I'd like to see the opposite - keeping at least 4 forwards up the pitch. Teams would then keep men back. Imagine Turbo, Jamie, Rian and Soupy playing as forwards. Opposition would definitely keep men back to cover.

Our tactics are hindering us and not playing to our strengths.

It’s not as easy as that. What if turbos man runs up the pitch? Does he just leave him or track him? What if he scores a goal? Roscommons full back scored a goal last night. I don’t think it’s necessarily tactics that has our forwards dropping deep

Kildare 1-17 Cavan 0-11 51 mins
Looks like a Kildare win

This would mean
We beat Clare we get promoted
Cavan get beat and both Armagh and westmeath draw we get promoted

Very, very tight division now and especially given the final round pairings all sorts of permutations can happen

No excuse not to have at least 4 up front. No team is gonna have everyone bombing forward

Roscommon full back scored a goal because he had no one to mark and could push up at will. He had plenty of cover behind him to allow him to push without fear of being caught out.

I'd disagree with you regarding our tactics. I really do believe that it was our tactics to have our forwards dropping back - it wasn't by accident.

Today was a get out of jail card as regards promotion. Kildare have done us a big favour. Win next week and we get promoted. Clare away will be a tough ask as they need a result to be sure of safety as well. Tight division.
