I has been very rushed and crowdedThe championship was like The Benny Hill Show.
They couldn’t get it over quick enough. Even taking away the no replay element, it was far too rushed. Usually it takes us most of the next week to digest a match, watch highlights, discuss it with people, live it again... no sooner was it over than we had to book more tickets, hotels, time off, babysitters etc. It was a lot of expense especially in these times.
Games weren’t allowed to breathe. There was a short build up, games on top of each other, provincials on the same weekend. Coverage was reduced and diluted.
The Hurling and football finals a week apart was silly. The great Hurling final was talked about all week, and then it was... oh aye, the football final is tomorrow. Is it? Jaysus, I forgot all about it!
It was all too rushed. It was as if both championships were an inconvenience.
Anyway, the club championships start soon, so it’s time for this again...
I suppose there is an element of lets wait and see how the rest of the year pans out. It may be that attendances and interest at club level around the country will benefit. But I can't help feel the overall summer experience of enjoying build up and aftermath of big intercounty games has been reduced. A few weeks extension into August would have made a difference
