All Ireland series

We should be winning this one comfortably. I think we will get a positive reaction within the camp. League table says Westmeath are worse than Fermanagh, Cavan and Down (but worryingly, better than Antrim).

There seems to be a consensus that we have had one serious championship match this season and we could have learned little from matches with Cavan, Down and Antrim. If that is the case, and I think it is, then there is no point talking up Westmeath now.

That said it’s a chance to win a game and hopefully rack up a score. That effectively extinguishes the prospect of being knocked out at this stage and slackens the pressure in the 2 trickier fixtures- both of which are winnable.

I wouldn’t be resting anyone unless they had a knock. Go for win and a big score in front of the crowd.

After the group stage games are completed is there a draw to see what 2nd place teams meet what 3rd place or has that already been done? Or do the 2nd and 3rds of the same group meet again? I can't find clarity on that anywhere.

On the morning to the draw for the groups I think this was explained further. At the time I got the impression that if an open draw threw up a repeat of a provincial final or a game from the group stage then it would be redrawn. It wasn’t explained how that would be done but it was clear that games from earlier championship rounds could be repeated.

Yes sorry.

subject to avoiding of repeat provincial final pairings and where possible repeat pairings from Round One.

I see the tickets are for general admission so if I wanted a seating ticket, say for a pensioner, I assume you would need to get to the ground early to guarantee a seat. Am I correct in thinking this?

Yeah this is the case. Going by previous games at home this year you would need to be right and early to get a decent seat.

Replying here to what I have just read on the Ulster championship thread.

Sunday was a blow in terms of defeat, no silverware and obviously the manner of defeat.

But can it not also serve as a rallying point?? Surely yes.

But also, we know that that Derry at full strength, is a team that most, except the very, very best slides fear playing against. If they fear Derry, they will fear Armagh. Likewise we now know we can mix it with most sides. Reasons to be cheerful part 1.

2 weeks to get our chins off the ground and get down to work.

Westmeath should not present a major problem. If Galway beat Tyrone it will be Tyrone rather than ourselves under pressure in Omagh. Reasons to be cheerful part 2.

Derry would still beat most teams without mcguigan imo but the top team should beat them if they didn't have mcguigan

Anybody thought what would happen Derry if they lost McGuigan to suspension?
I would imagine they would start someone else in his place.

In all seriousness though, Derry doesn’t concern us anymore (unless we meet them later on).

We need to focus on this new cash cow/ka-ching/almost pointless waste of time, league thingy. Starting with Westmeath.

The amount of negativity posted following Sunday is for me ridiculous.

I left Clones on Sunday and my mood wasn't one of deflation - maybe frustration to an extent. Despite all the moaning about the game on Sunday I thought it was a brilliant Ulster final. I've watched it back 3 times. Armagh were very impressive.

Hanging Ethan out to dry for the goal is lazy for me. There were two Armagh players contesting that ball with Rodgers and it was their job to get something on it. I'm not removing all blame from Ethan - but the goal wasn't solely his fault.

I thought the sidelline got the tactics spot on. We more than matched Derry. Created more scoring chances and for me we were slightly the better team. If a man drops one short or wide - the line can't be blamed.

Conor O'Neill, Ciaran Mackin and Rian O'Neill were all superb. Jarly Og was also very effective. I'm not convinced the chance to square the ball was on when he took his fisted point. Certainly a goal chance for himself wasn't. Soupy was massive for us when introduced. He has to start the next day and switch roles with Turbo as the impact sub.

Murnin coming back after injury against Down didn't have the usual impact - but he'll come back all the better for his run out. He's an exceptional footballer and all being well will be back to 100% for the group.

On the biting incident - the game was possibly won and lost. The free was pushed up for Derry and made it a scorable one for McGuigan. The following kickout was then pulled back. Forker's wide to draw level at a crucial stage was a big blow, McQuillan dropped one short around the hour mark which also would have been massive at the time. We can even go back to our very first free - hindsight's a wonderful thing but Rian should have taken it insead of Turbo.

These are all things beyond the control of management. But people revert to having a go at the manager - constantly.

Thankfully there is a shift to the AI series. Westmeath should be a comfortable win. I think Armagh will have too much for Tyrone in Omagh. Galway are a serious side and that game will be a good indicator as to where we are (provided it's not a dead rubber).

Relatively the bookies have Armagh heavily overpriced. Derry 10/1 Tyrone 14/1 & Armagh 28/1 for Sam.

Personally I think this is the best Armagh have been since 2006. Better than the '08 team who won an Ulster.

One thing which was very obvious on Sunday was Rian O'Neill's love for the big occasion - it's his bread and butter. He proves it time and time again. And should Oisin make a return to any fitness that would be some addition.

Anyone who thinks our year will be shortlived - I cannot agree with. We matched Derry at their own game and had a number of players not 100% and/or injured.

When we edge a team out later this year by a point or two, I hope the same posters who point towards management for the 'loss' the other day, can acknowledge the line that day.

Great post. Think I agree with all of that to be honest.

In real time it did look like a goal was on for Jarly Og or even to square it to Turbo or whoever it was with him, I was getting flashbacks of Jemar in Croke Park where he could have gone for goal but in that moment a point was probably right. Haven’t watched the game back myself (honestly just sickened still, for the lads more than anything as we all know the work they put in) so maybe the point was correct option.

Those All Ireland odds are crazy, Tyrone are so up and down it’s unreal, would have us slightly ahead of them and on par with Derry.

Totally agree with the bolded, think one minute he was up kicking that free from about 50+ yards and the next he was in our defence making a great block, the man is a machine. Oisin when he gets fit is a man who can push us on big time.
