A great win - well done to all. Struggled around midfield first half and didn't win breaking balls. A number of mistimed hand passes also meant that a few scoring chances were lost.
Much better 2nd half - and we got that little bit of luck near the end.
Performance overall was much more positive, pushed up on most of their kick outs and played more attacking football - shows what we can do when we are let off the leash.
McQuillan i thought was ok for us 8n most of the match, including giving Murnin a soft free at the end - but where did he get all the additional extra time??? Playing for a draw??

Anyway, a 2 week rest and then off to Croker

What a day.

A lot of fans were giving up the ghost at half time. But the football we did play in the first half was very good. Just not enough of it. But we stuck at it. Think Galway really expected us to religiously stick to a running game into the wind in the second half but we mixed it up and that for me was what kept us in the match.

Hate criticising refs but apart for not calling Burns up for an over carry I thought every marginal call in the first half went Galway’s way including a couple of harsh cards we picked up. The opposite was true in the second half where apart from the decision to keep playing on at the end I thought we were the beneficiaries of the softer calls.

Grugan and Murnin stood up but it really wasn’t a day about stand out performances it was about contributions across the park. On that point a shout to some of the foot soldiers who got their chance and didn’t look out of place. Higgins, Kierans, McElroy, Cummiskey and a returning P Burns all did their bit today. Cummisky barely touched the ball but Galway got no space on his side of the pitch. The same happened last year when towards the end of the season a few lesser known players got their chance from the bench when big games were in the melting pot. It’s a very positive message to all the lads making sacrifices.

But let’s face it our natural game is to push up on kick outs and kick the ball forward when we have it. Let’s just stick to that and see where we get.

It was a weekend of surprises. The AI is very flat. No clear favourite. Tomorrow’s draw might guarantee a big gun falls at this stage and it might let a lesser light come through to the last 8.
