Tough game tonight. Probably should’ve snuck the win in the end but a draw the way we played is ok
Kick outs seems to be our biggest problem and led to most of the pressure that we where put under in that first half. If Beggan was put under that sort of pressure he puts the ball down and leathers it as far down the pitch as he can, maybe two or threes times. That relieves pressure and makes the opposition think about maybe hesitate about pushing up the next few times.
If we are to become the team everyone was saying this really needs sorting

Some people need to step back and breathe.
We have played three hardened division one teams and are sitting top with 5pts
We didn't play well tonight and rode our luck at times.
But the team settled more in the second half and probably should have snuck it
A lot of strange referee decisions and I see he is down to ref next week v mayo according to the gaa.ie website.
We struggled at me midfield although Ciaran mackin did some serious work
Kickouts need to go long when under pressure.
But bloody hell if our forwards ever click some team is going to get some hiding.
Poor night weather wise and some of those Monaghan supporters need muzzles

Poor performance all around. Monaghan handed them the game with all wides and being down to 13 men.

Only consolation was the subs. Great to see Oisin O’Neill back, thought he was the best player on the field when introduced. Turbitt and Campbell made a massive impact as well. Those 3 are simply better than most of the starting 15. Duffy had a nightmare, by my count Hall had 3 open shots inside the 21 and never even thought about taking the shot. Being afraid to shoot is inexcusable at county level. I simply don’t understand why Sheridan keeps getting game time. At best he’s the 6th best midfielder on the panel behind Mackin, Oisin, Kelly, Crealey and Grimley.

Lucky to escape with a draw. Hopefully that’s their worst performance of the year. Have to think there will be several changes in midfield and the forward line next

Disappointing not to put Monaghan to the sword when we were on top and a man up and we didn’t kick on when we where ahead ,Some poor decision making, overcarrying , bouncing the ball in the muck and poor shot selection in general . We probably should have been out of the game in the first half only Monaghans shooting was really bad . The kick outs tonight show that when pressure is applied we still have issues and their is lots to work on here . There were positives we created lots of goal chances and ripped through a tight Monaghan defence at times , we had to did deep and she a bit of grit to grind out a result . Turbitt and Oisin O Neill came in and done well and they look like they will important players in the coming year . We ain’t going to get every game on Divison one all our own way and if some had said 5 points in the first 3 Games we would all have taken their hand off . Every game is massive and a very big test next week in Roscommon (yes Roscommon) I think we have more firepower than Mayo but they have a great defensive unit , are very intense and will pressure the kick off . I thought the ref was poor enough tonight but was as bad for both sides ,

Dublin losing is massive as falling adrift at bottom so every game is massive now for them. We need a win against Mayo or Kildare so I can relax. 7 points will be the safety spot

Ok I'm still not sure I'd we earned a draw or throw away a win.
Not the worse thing to happen, many of times we wouldn't have fought back but we did and those results are important.
Were we good tonight no but still came away with a point and if someone told us we would have had 5 points from 1st 3 games when fixture were announced we would have bit their hands off.
We improved In second half thought Kelly was impressive.
Rian penalty was definitely over the line. We have work to do and games left to do it. We reality check for us and keeps media spotlight of us. Bring on Mayo and my isolating ending.
Oisin mc should comment on every game

A tough night all round.

As bad a team performance in my opinion since the Donegal championship match a couple of years ago. The difference is we scrapped a point. Hopefully that is a good sign.

The weather was dreadful and Monaghan had any good players there were on the pitch. A dogged team they are always hard to beat and it was a night it was hard to play good football.

Kickouts were an obvious issue but the number of times the ball was thrown on the pitch didn't help. Much of the time.the problem was lack of clear movement out the pitch- Monaghan blocked runners a lot and got a few bookings. However, as supporters we are going to have to cut out the complaints on the keeper. It doesn't help his confidence, it alerts the referee that he is taking time over the kickout and much of the time it is the outfield player at fault.

As for the penalty. It was obviously over the line as the booing from the crowd said straight away. Even if it wasn't Beggan was halfway home to Monaghan when the ball was kicked and a retake could have been ordered.

Anyway a point gained rather than lost. A big match next weekend. I wouldn't be discounting players as quickly as some would.

And now we hear Barry Cassidy is the referee next week!

A tough night all round.

Having slept on it, I'm now really disappointed that we didn't take the 2 points last night. Yes, we were poor and well squeezed by a top team but we had the game in our hands at the death and failed once again to get over the line - Monaghan fans would have the same criticism also I suppose, they just seem to lack that ruthless streak when games are in the melting pot also.
A positive however was our discipline. I thought Monaghan bought a couple of frees and Armagh teams in the past would have ripped down a Monaghan man in that last passage of play for Beagan to pop over for the win. I thought Mackin in midfield was a real positive also.

Agree and a lot of our players were well off it last night , I know a couple of lads have been singled out for criticism but very few performed last night , however in previous games like this I felt we looked inferior on this occasion I thought we just needed a spark to ignite and we had the better quality players , maybe I’m delusional be interested to see if others feel the same.

On the penalty although I was watching it on a shitty stream I didn’t see the players protest and the commentary never mentioned it , some people said the crowd were booing , did any players protest ?

An interesting game last night which will really stand to us in the long run. 5 points down on a horrible night and playing terrible we managed to pull level and then ahead by sheer courage and endeavour. The team that came out in the second half was transformed from the one that had competed in the first half. Obviously there was some raised voices in the changing room at half time. In many ways it's easy to raise your game against Dublin in Croke Park or against the hateful cheaters but it's on horrible nights in February against dogged opponents like Monaghan where you really find out if you have what it takes and I think the lads showed us they have balls.
I actually don't mind Monaghan, they are usually tough and honest although McCarron wouldn't have looked out of place competing against Tom Daly and McManus could wear a pair of swimming goggles but generally honest. They have shown over the past 8 years that they have the formula to remain in the top division so for us to grind out a draw is not to be sniffed at.
The game will also serve as a reality check for the boys ahead of the game next week with Mayo. I'm really looking forward to that game, again, it will tell us a lot about where we are. We still need the points so we will need to be at full tilt. A win should leave us safe and we could then be in a position to try out other players in the remaining games although there is also a case for having more competitive "must win" games.
As expected, our bench played a big part in the game and I thought Oisin O'Neill in particular had a major impact. I have some reservations about Jemar, Paddy Burns and Steven Sheridan (I should say I have no issue with Forkhill) and unfortunately they were proved true last night. Whilst Hall is a real worker he is not a prolific scorer and as some have pointed out already he spurned some chances. I thought Sheridan was anonymous in the first have and was not surprised to see him on the bench for the second. I would have thought Grimley offers more by way of fielding and scoring than him with Oisin O'Neill being a step ahead again. Paddy Burns makes me nervous. Soupy played OK but he has a tendency to lose possession which is a worry. He is a real scoring threat though and I would certainly start him over Hall. I was very disappointed with Forker taking that shot in the dying minutes when it wasn't really on. An experienced player like him should know better. Had we held possession and worked a score at that stage we would have went two up and could probably have closed the game out. Also good to see Turbitt getting game time, he needs to be a starter. For Monaghan I thought Darren Hughes was colossal. He has a serious work rate and was a thorn in our side all night. His brother is probably a more skilful footballer but is a bit more rash as was evidenced by his long range effort which went wide, Banty would not have been pleased.
Kick outs are a serious issue. It was a no brainer for Banty to try to expose this and you can be sure Mayo will do the same next week. Blaine seems to have a long enough kick so we really need to change things up a little. Ciaran Mackin has proven he is a good fielder and the two O'Neills and Jarly Og should be good enough of a targets.
So, what would next week's team look like if I were unfortunate enough to have to pick it?

Hughes
Sheilds
Forker
McKay
J Burns
Rowland
O'Hanlon
Mackin
O O'Neill
Soupy
Grugan
Kelly
Nugent
O'Neill
Turbitt
