Sorry Eireogatron I had a laugh type chuckle: "I think the constant tinkering with the Championship system has had a majorly detrimental effect on the competitions" and then you add a "tinker" suggestion! Reminds me of what I do a lot. Sorry just had to share you cheering me up on a dreary Tuesday.

To be fair, I'm not advocating a "new" tinker, championship was played throughout the league for years and only separated about 4 years ago. I just found it more competitive, garnered more interest and had a better championship build up and "feel" in that system.

Agree there isn’t the same championship buzz. Not in the group stage anyway. The leagues are an improvement. And if we keep the leagues then we keep the championship. I dread the idea of having the leagues back to when clubs got their “favours” to see other clubs go down and Middletown or whoever else played hurling had about ten games in hand at the tail end of each season. At least now every game more or less counts
