Mayo v Armagh

How proud we should be of these lads. 7 days after putting Monaghan away and we could have taken Mayo too.

Unfortunately yesterday was a poor day for our two young stars. That might show us how much we depend on them. When you depend on youth it makes for a bright future.

I don't think anyone has mentioned a man on this thread. Our best player in the championship. Rian will grab the highlights, Jamie and Jarly Og had good parts too. However, one man for me was so good in all 5 games.

Paul Hughes. Armagh player of the year by a distance. He didn't even have one average game. In all 5 games he was excellent.

You can’t be finished with those teabags that quick!

But seriously lad, you sound like a stuck record. You’re not doing Ross McQuillan any favours and I’d say the lad would be embarrassed at your constant harping on about him.

Bunny boiling wannabe girlfriend maybe ?

Good point about Hughes the Denis Irwin of the team .

Hello all, im probably the last man ye want to see on here. I don’t want this to sound patronizing, but hard luck lads. I’ll put the hands up and say Deegan rode ye side ways!. He’s done it to us in the past, so I feel yer pain. No point going into too much analysis at this hour, but ye gave us the fright of our lives in that last few minutes, really thought yer boys would reel us in. I know ye probably don’t want to hear this, but Its my first time seeing your team in the flesh, and I can tell ye, ye have the respect of every Mayo person who watched that game. Thats a team going in the right direction, that was a tougher game than Roscommon, (we were shocking against them and lost by a point) but tonight we played well and just about fell over the line.

Theirs a nice fluidity to yer play, and with O’Neill and Clarke up top, I see promotion to div 1 coming next year, and a long championship run. Fair play to all that travelled the atmosphere was electric, and its a game to be remembered. Winter well now, and we could be meeting in super 8’s next year. All the best .

Fair play. The very best of luck for the rest of the season. The Mayo support is fantastic.

If McGeeney is to stay on he would have to sort out the Oisin O'Neill situation. There are also many posters on here saying they are sick hearing about Ross McQuillan.

I'd question why people complain regarding the attention other people give them on here. The season is over. It's okay to question management now. Oisin O'Neill and Ross McQuillan are two exceptional footballers. Two of the finest young players in the province let alone the county.

If McGeeney has an issue with either of them it's time to go. Last week in Clones O'Neill sat on a bench watching McGeeney take Charlie Vernon on. The game was well over. An insult to say the least.

If McQuillan is fully committed and Oisin (which he is) both should be starting.

It's simple - you play your best 15. People post on here for the sake of it. Those who actually watch Armagh football know that McQuillan and O'Neill are two of the best we have.

If McGeeney can't see that it's time to go.

If Rian and Jarly Og sat on a bench this year and Oisin and Ross started instead there's every chance they'd be as effective.

It's time for the young lads to start. Jason Duffy, Ross McQuillan, Jarly Og Burns, Oisin O'Neill and Rian O'Neill. Conor O'Neill is also a 6 waiting to happen. Then young Cian McConville is a super forward.

Should McGeeney stay on and not start these lads he's doing two things. Halting their individual progress and holding the county back.

We haven't had this youth in 2 decades. Play them or go are McGeeney's two options.

We've unearthed two. Time for the rest.

Cian McConville is only out of minors, he’s at least 3 years away from senior county football and that’s if he makes it, great footballer but very light.

Cian will not be on the squad next year due to u20s but not far away as seen the other night at u20s he’s a top class player. The u20s that shI you’d be called up and given time to develop and lots of game time will be Ross hopefully Conor turbitt definitely Conor magennis and Ronan magennis top players who should also be called up and Paul Martin top defender though still u20 next year. These players need to be developed and I agree with mr Maguire the underage in our county is ridiculous and lots may quit and not want to still be playing if they don’t get there chance early as reality is in 3/4/5 years we should be competing for an All Ireland

At least 3 years away? He's a year younger than his cousin Rian. He will be with U20s next year as Rian was last year and then good to go.

Both Cian and Conor O'Neill were added to my point to stress the strength in dept.

My point concerns mainly Oisin O'Neill, Ross McQuillan and Jason Duffy. All should be starting. If McGeeney doesn't use them next year they'll walk.

Last night proved one thing to me. At very worst we are as good as Mayo - division one champions. Dublin, Donegal and maybe Kerry and Tyrone are the only teams in the county I wouldn't fancy us against. But Jesus - play the best players we have.

When is the last time anyone saw o O’Neill play? Yet they call for him to start every game.

Play your best 15 but 2 mins later it is play the youth or go. You haven’t a clue what you want only to give off and chat sh*t.

Fair play to the lads yesterday. I bloody love it when armagh play football... proper football. Leaving Jamie and rian up and kicking it in long. Absolute joy to watch.

Keeper getting a lot of stick, havent seen the game back yet but unfair to put the blame on him solely. Can you mention his mistakes without saying grugan missed an open net, Jamie missed a one on one, Brendy was roasted for 2nd goal although was excellent otherwise. All players make errors, some are magnified more than others.

The one unforgivable thing about yesterday was conceding the short kickout again for 60 mins before pressing. This is where management should be held to account. It killed us against Cavan the first day, wasn’t rectified for the replay, and raised its ugly head again yesterday. You can’t give good teams primary possession.

Referee was a joke. Worth about 6 points to mayo.

I look forward to next year with a bit of optimism and look forward now to the club championship.

I am not too disappointed with yesterday.

Was Deegan shocking? He certainly was.
Was our shot selection shocking? It certainly was.
Did we do ridiculous things when we shouldn't have? Yes we did.
Did we get some tactics wrong? Yes.

We had more than enough opportunities to win that match but we just never quite had the experience to get over the line. These lads can't be faulted for their determination, I thought they dropped their heads after Mayo went in front but they clawed their way back into the game. If we can improve our fitness levels and show that for 70 mins then we are going places.

On a side note I thought Rory Grugan finally showed his worth yesterday. We all knew it was there but he had his head in the game. It was a shame about the goal chance though.

I rate Oisin highly but he has hardly played ball this year and hasn’t kicked any for Armagh so I’m not surprised he didn’t get on. As for McQuillan he has never stood out any time I have seen him play

He played as recent as 3 weeks ago. And play your best 15 doesn't mean you start him or McQuillan? Catch a grip. You didn't even make a point there.

I don’t think anyone has blamed him solely but he should have done better on both goals. Kick outs have been a problem for a while and need worked on.

McQuillan against Dromintee two weeks ago was exceptional. A fantastic player. Armagh need to be using him fast or they'll inevitably lose him. Likewise Oisin.

Maybe Vernon and Grugan are brilliant in training because I don't know how they can be picked over McQuillan or O'Neill based on club football. And last year was Grugans best ever club season. Oisin in the final and McQuillan in the semi (and Duffy) were all superb.

What happened to Ryan Kenenedy? Starter for first 3 champ games and then not even in squad yesterday. Surely a defensive option. It was very noticeable yesterday that our bench wasn’t as strong with Murnin and Morgan ruled out. Our subbing strategy Is difficult to work out. Joe McElroy seemed first option in most games and doesn’t get a run yesterday at all while Greg McCabe after being totally out in the cold is first man on at the back.

We Deffo need another option in goals or a better kick out strategy. We got completely hemmed in for the last 20 mins of the first half and the game could have been Over because we couldn’t win our own kick out and relieve the pressure. We also needed to push up on their kick outs for the second half but the reality is the fitness levels required for that for 70 minutes are really difficult. For those speaking of Oisin O Neill I’ve watched him a couple of times as a neutral for Cross and he doesn’t look fit enough for county football at this stage. Maybe a full pre season and he will be back flying and ready.

Maurice Deegan also truly screwed us, especially in the first half. Every single 50/50 call went against us and that definitely isn’t the first time that has happened. Our discipline was truly atrocious at times though and Mark Shiields as one of our most experienced players can have no real excuses for the last 2 frees.

The most important thing now is that the squad stays together. No departures. Wrap Donaghy in cotton wool for another year and promotion to division 1 is the principal goal for next year.

You obviously watched a different semi final than me. He certainly didn’t stand out.
I will repeat what I said earlier. It’s 2 years since Oisin kicked a ball for the county. I am not surprised he didn’t come on yesterday or before.
I would agree about Grugan, I was calling for him to be dropped. Played well yesterday in fairness to him
