Mayo v Armagh

What do people think will happen with McGeeney?

Not sure what will happen. Personally I think he has had a fair crack at it over 5 years and it may be time for change. The question that should be asked of any management team is have they improved the team? Again I don't believe they have . The final say will be with the management committee of the county board and I have very little faith in that body .

It takes a brave man to take on a job that he knows is realistically a 5/7 year project. I think we're seeing the emergence of his 5 year work, he is not naive saying from the start it's likely the next man in will see the real benefit of what's going on now. We need to give Geezer a new term and I think despite some agenda's on here the sensible people who matter will make the right call without the need to think it over too much. If you cannot see the progress over the last two years in particular then I'd question if you really want to see the progress or another agenda is at play. Now the groundwork is done and the team is back upto a decent level lets see if we can kick on; this management team deserve the chance to try and take us onto a new level! They didn't hide when the hard, patient work was required so now should be allowed to push on and it can be reviewed after the next term.

Paul Grimley managed to get us to a semi final 2 years into a 3 year contract. It would be incredible to see what he could do with this squad and he really would strengthen the team.

Head is fried. Too many what could happens when at present we need to now focus on what has happened.

You weaken your argument substantially by with these repeated petty snipes at Vernon and Grugan.

Firstly, neither of those two players started consistently this summer. Grugan lost place in the forward line while newbies in O'Neill and Nugent started. Newer lads like McKay and Burns were favoured in defence to Vernon, while Burns and Crealy both appeared to be ahead in the queue at midfield. It is therefore nonsense to promote the idea that the exclusion of your favourites was due to misplaced loyalty to certain experienced players.

Secondly, Vernon and Grugan have been two of our best players for years. Grugan in particular, despite poorer form this season, has probably been the county's best player over the period of the last five years. Any decent manager would, and should, hesitate to dispense with such proven performers.

When something is new and shiny it is not necessarily better. It's important to remember that.
Grugan has been Armagh's best player for the last 5 years?

Christ we tumbled since 2008. I just didn't know it was that far.

In my opinion, yes.

Your mockery, and failure to acknowledge that this is a perfectly reasonable assertion, serves to establish the regard others should hold for your musings on this topic. None.

Come on now grugan has been brilliant in the past a bit of dip in form this year but that doesn't make him a bad player..

Gutted that we couldn't get over the line on Saturday. Probably not a real surprise as this seems to be a long running trait of this team. That may be harsh as mayo are a hardened team, but we've managed to draw and lose games from winning positions all year - Kildare, Clare, Meath, cork, Cavan and now mayo. I'll not include the Donegal match as I think they looked like winners throughout that match.

A couple of points I would make from bring at the match:

I think blane Hughes is receiving far too much abuse on here. It's a very unforgiving position nowadays. We've had plenty of keepers over the last 6 years and none have completely convinced. People should get off his back.

Donaghy, forker and Paul Hughes were excellent in defense, again.

Clarke was majestic, hall and Campbell really excellent.

Grugan got a bit of form back. This probably because he was further up the pitch and was kick passing forward as opposed to going sideways in our half back line. He should never have been made captain.

I know oisin O'Neill isn't match fit but he if he can get past a walk he should have seen some action over the last 2 matches.

The Geezer situation is difficult. I think he probably deserves another chance but it would be on the condition of improving his backroom team. The calamity of the last free on Saturday night and who was giving instructions was embarrassing. I think McGeeney has done a huge amount of good in his time but I think someone from cross will be at the helm when it comes to fruition. I hope not though

Overall I'm disappointed with the progress this season. 6 points from division 2 was a shocking return as it was a weak division, should have beaten Cavan the first day and not reaching the super 8s.
