I’ve watched a few games at the AG lately, and the covered stand was packed (especially yesterday ), with very few fans behind the goals (not sure about the covered terrace).

Are the terraces behind the goals closed? Surely it makes sense (whether fans are vaccinated or unvaccinated), that spectators should spread out? So why are the goal end terraces seemingly locked up?

Probably cause it looks better on the screen that there's a good crowd in the stand

Seemed to be people behind the goals on Sunday at the cathedral side. Not an awful lot though.

I know behind the goals or at the corner flag aren’t the best views, but some people are still a bit cautious about going to events with crowds. And looking at a packed stand while terraces are empty, they won’t be filled with confidence about going.

Some people will be mad to go to matches. We have to understand that some folk might not have been anywhere of significance in 2 years. Given the choice of someone being locked up, too scared to go out or standing safely on their own/with family, distanced from others behind the goals at a McKenna match, well theres no telling what that might mean to someone.

Have been saying it for years. Armagh defensively are weak down the spine of the defence. Only have to look at Monaghan last year. Wasn’t at the game or haven’t seen it, but until we fix this, it’s going to be tough going toe to toe with teams who notoriously play a running game.
I made the same point after the Cavan game however having watched the game on Saturday I can say a lot of my concerns were allayed as we were very tight defensively. In the case of the goal it was well worked although I think Kelly and Burns could have closed Kilpatrick down better before he shot. Looking at it in the replay they may have been waiting for each other to put the block in and then neither did.

Showing a covid passport doesn’t mean someone doesn’t have the virus though. Are people led into a false sense of protection that the passport brings?

I’d imagine a lot of people would be sensible if tested positive, in regards isolating, staying home etc.

But how many would stay away if their club were in the county final? If their county were in the provincial final for the first time in years? If their county were in the AI final?

Would they do the right thing, and sit by themselves in the spare room, sitting on a beanbag, watching dodgy streaming on a laptop perched on an ironing board? Or would they say “feck that, im not missing this match, or the celebrations!”??

I know there’s probably no perfect solution, but opening up the whole ground would help. The rules that a match with 4000+ fans, people need a passport, then bunch them all together in the covered stand makes little sense. 4000 would easily fit around most county grounds, and no passports required.

That’s right the Nazis had less forms of identification than Covid Passports , Some historical scholar we have as an addition to the forum here .

This is ridiculous, this forum and thread is for football. If you want to talk about such subjects make your own thread and see who is interested
I agree. I'm particularly surprised that it is some of our most seasoned posters who are getting involved. Most people have strong feelings on the subject but it has nothing to do with Armagh GAA. Please let's get back to the football.

Rian getting a rest. Interesting to see if the others can fill the void. Any Maghery folk on who can give us some info on Haveron?
I thought Forker, Higgins, Rowland and C O'Neill did well in defence on Saturday so happy to see them get another chance there. We have a huge wealth of talent at present, big pressure on Geezer and co to get the best out of it. Exciting times!!

Grugan, Murnin, Campbell, Nugent, Rian o Neill, Duffy, Turbitt, Mc Quillan, Kelly. 9 players there and im sure im missing a few. Add in the likes of Grimely and O o Neill, in the midfield. From 8 to 15 we really do have talent and a bit of depth. Christ if we could unearth a backline or develop a system to limit the exposure our backline faces we would be ok. Another nerve wrecking and potentially exciting season ahead. Sure us Armagh fans wouldn't have it any other way.

Not sure about the last sentence.
