Can picture it already .. 26th march, Armagh beat Themins by a last minute score in omagh and relegate them in the process. Scenes

On a serious note, Tyrone are all over the place, there’s been no improvement from last year, if it wasn’t for mccurry, the rossies would have beat them by more.
There’s a long way to go yet. One game at a time, NAG ;)

Poor first half. First ten mins of the second half were excellent. No team can live with us when we play like that. Slipped back into old habits a bit after that.
Though McKay was excellent. Was happy with McCambridge’s performance also. Nugent couldn’t buy a free tonight
Early in second half Nugent continually complaining to referee who at one stage told him to shut up. Think the complaining worked against him

Good to start the league with a win. Picking up a win from the off is so important for the rest of our league. It doesn't guarantee you anything, but at least you have a good start to build on and you aren't under even more pressure going into your second game knowing you could have two losses on the bounce.

As for the game itself, there were some good passages of play at times, some incredibly frustrating moments, some great scores, some bad wides and the usual unnecessarily close finish. The fact that Monaghan lost Jack McCarron so early on can't be overlooked, when you consider the final score. If he played the full game, we could have been in some serious trouble. Defensively, we still look suspect at times. It's obvious at this stage that we just don't have physically big elite level defenders. If you put a Jason Foley or a Mick Fitzsimmons in our back line, it would transform our team. As it is the likes of Forker, Morgan (I know he didn't play, but I'd class him as one of our best defenders) and McKay, just lack that bit of size or physical presence that would see them standout as the very best defenders. We aren't good enough in defence to mark one on one, so a blanket defence is the answer and can work well at times, but it can also be got at and when a line is broken, it can crumble very quickly. So I think more work needs done here.

Ethan Rafferty looks more comfortable in goals and scored a great point. However, he made three crucial errors, which could have cost us and is the danger of playing him in goal in that way. It was good to see Ross McQuillan show some serious pace as this is an area of the game that I think we lack a little bit - that next level speed that can open teams up.

Mayo is going to be a tough game. They are always a bit of a bogey team for us. They have some top class forwards and serious operators further back the pitch. But they don't have Lee Keegan or Oisin Mullin, so with our forwards, we can get at them. Just got my ticket for this game. I've a stag do in Carlingford the night before, so hopefully will be in decent enough shape for this game!
