I do think we need to start using the older players less to keep them for championship, but to say murnin is past it is crazy at this point was unreal last year and this was his first game this year, have to give the lad a chance and can't be writing players off after 1 game, Cian didn't have his best game but wouldn't write him off either as he was very good against Meath. Murnin will no doubt be big come championship, I do think we need to be more careful with grugan as he is a playmaker for us and if he gets injured in the league that rules him out of championship you'd be raging, think forker at 6 is a great position for him sees a pass and can dictate the play
100% behind you on this.
Yesterday our better players were targeted with very limited success. The hit on Murnin was by far one of the hardest in the game. Teams like Donegal will do that all day long. No complaints as we do it too, but rotating the more experienced players both while they are on the field - letting them move front to back as they currently do and coming off the bench or resting to it, is a tactic we can afford at this time of year. Several of the younger and lesser known lads as have already been noted, are stepping up and look like they're falling in nicely with the experienced players. It's much too early in the season to be confident of their abilities, especially when we consider that all 3 oppositions have been relatively poor so far.
We cannot judge how good anyone is just yet, but can confidently say that they look like they are enjoying the system we are playing. Will we go far with the squad as is? Who knows! A league final is certainly a high possibility, with the sad reality/caution that we could trip up and have done in the past. There's no point looking ahead beyond the next league game at this stage. The story has a few chapters still to be written. "No team will want to meet us at the minute" but the more confident ones will also know our history and no there's nothing to be frightened of. By that I mean, over the last few seasons we have approached games against teams we should beat on any given day only to be reminded that it hurts to lose.Other times we manage to somehow win when we looked out of it, and of course occasionally snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Donegal?? I don't honestly believe they are a step up. I would say they are equal to anything we have played so far except they are better organised. They believe in their manager. We are better organised and we (players) believe in our manager. I've seen 2 of their games. In my opinion they are similar to Meath in how they play, just a little better at it. In my opinion we have the better panel and the stronger players. Even though I'll be forecasting a win for us, I'm not confident it's a sure thing.
Finally, I think we are possibly safe in division 2 and maybe 2 wins away from promotion. Hopefully the thought process is not to rest back on where we are and push for an unbeaten run to division 1. That should be our only concern right now.
Right, that's enough of me being sensible. Darkened room, glass and a half of milk and a few strawberries is the order of the day. Go easy on me. Ya know I'm mentally unstable - or is it mentally unusable????
