National League 2019

I was right in line with what happened with Clarke and as soon it happened I thought "he's just elbowed him in the face and the ref is right there and if the ref's seen that Clarke is in trouble." I've read McGeeney's comments on RTE suggesting that the player made a meal of it, but as far as I could see, the player went down straight away, rather than delaying and then going down. I can't say that Clarke definitely caught, but I'm 99.9% sure that he threw and elbow and it was at head level, not across the chest. Other people who were closer to the incident may say otherwise, so happy to be corrected.

However, what doesn't help is the fact that the ref is from Meath and we play them next week. I'm not saying that that influenced his decision, but you wonder who makes these decisions at Croke Park and is unable to look at league table and see where a ref comes from?
Patrick just been speaking to the camera guy for Armagh in the shop in Derrymacash and the question of the Jamie's red card came up (ok I asked) - obviously. The answer was and I'm quoting here but maybe not word for word - "in slow motion it can clearly be seen Jamie is being held by the Jersey and/or nipped. His right arm was raised either in an attempt to push off or balance and came level with the Clare players lower chest at no time making contact. It's not possible to say whether or not there was an attempt to strike out but likely did look that way in real time. The Clare players reaction was more than a second after that and only when the ref actually turned towards him and was looking in that direction as he was alongside at the time of the incident. It's unclear yet if they will appeal and he wouldn't know that anyway"

As for our goal, there were 5 steps taken
As for their first goal James Morgan's tackle was mistimed missing the ball and player and THEN it was fisted/palmed directly into the goal. No other contact at all
As for their second goal, it's impossible from the camera angle to say the ball did or didn't cross the line but looks like Hughes was on the line so on balance most likely to have been impossible although can't be certain. It was a defensive error and own goal if it did as an armagh player dropped it.
The injury to the Clare player was not certain but seems like a broken ankle after Charlie landed awkwardly
The players reported that the pitch was frozen and Clare did voice an objection asking could it not be transferred to Armagh.

Interesting Calm. If the video guy is right let’s hope we appeal
Yeah even the piece from Geezer backs that up I guess. It's about as honest a sum up as I've seen for a while I think, saying that they believe....but concede it's tough to prove a lot of it conclusively.

Armagh Twitter shows that highlights is on TG4 show tonight at 8pm. Have to set the recorder as I'm out this evening

Just watched the tg4 highlights, for Jamie’s sending off yes he swung out with elbow but was 100% on the chest whilst he was getting fouled and Clare player went down like he had been shot in the head- literally jumped. First Clare goal is hard to tell from camera angle. As for second Clare goal, even from the not great camera angle it clearly cane off the post and didn’t cross the line

If you watch the highlights, Jamie does the same thing/similar when he has the ball about 10 seconds earlier to push the Clare man off him, doesn’t seem to be contact at all but daft to leave himself in that position. First Clare goal I’d be fairly sure Morgan doesn’t touch the ball and the second one definitely hit the post, no goal.

Charlie really should have taken his goal chance in the first half, blasted it straight at the keeper.

Thought the ball hit the post and straight into the keepers hands when I saw it on Sunday myself couldn’t believe the green flag went up

Simlilar thing that happened with Jamie’s red happened with Seamus o’shea, no card... don’t care about decisions by refs just as long as there’s consistency. As a side note jamie doesn’t look like he’s missed a step since coming back, good to see. Greg McCabe has been vastly underrated the past 2 years, always the catalyst for our breaks from the back and a constant ball winner in defence. Jemar hall had a cracker and proved a lot of critics wrong after last week, works relentlessly and always chips in with a couple scores

Ok, will take his word for it. And TV replays sound like they show that it wasn't as bad as it looked. Maybe he'll get off then?

Hard to tell with first goal, but for me second goal never crosses the line, I’d put the house on it.

Jamie has been foolish and left the referee with a decision to make, the Clare player has done his best to influence the referee also. Hard to know if there was any intention but as per previous conversation, control the controlables, if he doesn’t throw the arm back he doesn’t get sent off. Needs to be a bit cuter when he’s being fouled.

Jamie deserved to go. Doesn’t matter if there was contact. The intent was there, and he wasn’t looking where he was swinging. He wasn’t in control as he didn’t know where opponent was.

Had it been a Clare man who done similar, we’d have been outraged.

So, no complaints. Take your suspension. Learn from it.
