Keep McManus quiet and i fancy us to turn them over.

This is the simplified version of the truth here. Granted Monaghan was the hardest option in this draw but we are going to beat someone of that calibre at some stage.

Monaghan are essentially a defensive running team with a marquee forward. Their big midfielders are powerful runners and they have an array of workmanlike forwards who don’t know what the posts look like. These guys get subbed off for like for like replacements when their legs are run out. We know what we are going to get and if we get are markers in shape and prepared, work out what we are at with kick outs and plan out how to use the forward talent we have we can answer the questions Monaghan pose and ask a few of our own

Its up to who we put on McManus. Monaghan are a dogged team though and a hard championship team. Big performance required.

If you contrast the two Cavan games, one we were defensive and could have won the second we were open and played football and wee well beat.
The dilemma for management is which way will we play against Monaghan.

A great draw for Armagh. We are evolving as a team and need to play against another strong team like Monaghan. If we play like we played against Cavan (in patches), we will win this one.

we have the forwards to score at will but we have major issues in defence. In normal time of the 3 matches this year we have conceded 16, 16, 23 against 2 average enough teams and we give away free after free after free. If we continue to give place balls away against Monaghan we are in deep schtuck because McManus and Beggan will put everything over within about 55 yards. I cant see how the defensive problems can be remedied in the short term to be honest. I think this is going to be a shoot out.

If we can take our defensive display from the first game against Cavan, and our attacking play from the replay then Monaghan will be worried
That's actually a really good point. Stop being positive. People will think they're on a supporters forum! :D

Yes we have forwards that can score but that doesn't mean we give the opposing team a free ride when they get a chance to score. All teams have to focus on is defending against our forwards and when they are taken out of the game it means there forwards will be more effective.

Please can we just do a bit of work on sorting out our ability to defend. We really do need a team that can do both.
