If cross play the way they did in the last 10/15 mins today they’ll win the final. If not……
Madden kept a tight defensive system for 45 minutes or so. They were very hard to break down and were very disciplined. That thought is a very energy sapping tactic and that told as the gaps started appearing and we exposed them. That kept Madden in the game and they scored on breaks. They were not able to break further than 2 points ahead. I think they needed that to win.

We won but have more in us. Madden pushed is hard and Clans will do the same. The difference is they have the star in Souoy. He could be the difference in 2 weeks.

I felt your big players stood up in the last 10/15 mins. Experience showed maybe. Until then they hadn’t been great IMO.

Cross have one or two lads that aren’t bad players either….

Cross will be firm favourites for the final. They owe Clans for the smash and grab draw in the group stages. Probably a year or two too early for the DLBs
Anything can happen in a final but yeah you’d imagine Cross will do it. Future is bright for the DLB though

The county board must look at Falloon, surely there has to be some repercussions for him constantly getting into bother with high stakes games? How on earth he got armagh gaa referee of the year in 2022 is beyond me. Apply the rules and be consistent, it is all people ask for! The best games are those that you don't even notice the ref, not in falloons case, always has to make a show of it.

Although the match on Saturday night was not of a particularly high standard, it was a hugely enjoyable contest. Clann Eireann were absolutely cruising towards a final. They had the match by the scruff of the neck, but were completely undone by the (deserved) red card. It totally changed the game. I'd have to say that thereafter, Soupy gave one of the great individual performances. The man was exceptional, and that was reflected in his point scoring, which were of the highest order.

Clann Eireann will be kicking themselves, though. As well as losing control of the game, they had a wonderful chance to win the game with a late goal, but hit the bar and then hit the post with the rebound. Some might say bad luck, but I thought the initial shot was taken far too early and from too far out. There was an opportunity to bring it in close and finish it for sure.

As for the referee, I said a couple of weeks ago on this forum that "the standard of refereeing - like the standard of football itself - is very poor in our County. There is a culture / willingness to try and let the game flow too much and leads to a lot of undisciplined play". That was evident again on Saturday evening. I thought the three biggest calls - the penalty, the red card and the black card - were absolutely correct. However, I felt he was not as consistent in his approach to let things go as he has been in the past, and I'd imagine Clann Eireann will feel sore about how that impacted the game.

As for the second semi-final yesterday, I thought the better team won. On the basis of the play, Madden should have held a lead at half time, but had some terrible wides in the first half, and therefore only went in level. The game definitely got stretched towards the end and Rangers superior forwards, were able to slot the vital scores to see them home. As Madden chased the game, they were caught on the break and the final score line flattered Rangers somewhat. That said, it was all about the result and as I said, Rangers were deserving victors. I thought experience - the ability to hold their nerve and take the right options at pressure moments - was key in the closing minutes.

Common factor in both semis was when the games were in the crucial stages the key players stood up
Soup/mcpartlan/o Neill for Clans
Jamie/o neills x2 / mcconville for Cross

In terms of the Clans game, Yes Soup was immense when the questions were being asked, Shane was quiet enough but he was literrally playing with 1 arm as Mc Carthy for Clan Eireann was just holding him for the full game and Falloon never blew that either. He did score a few crackers also at crucial times.

I must though mention our young lads who looked like they have been playing senior football for 5 years, Callum, Jack,Sam,Aaron, Malachy, Brendan when introduced were simply outstanding. They drove everything forward and allowed the bigger players to get into the game. Stefan was out on his feet at the end of normal time and he had literally just threw the kitchen sink at it but it was the youth that had the legs going into the extra time and this allowed Stefan and Shane to get on the end of the plays and punish CE. Young O'Neill driving at their defence also securing a cracker score and a crucial free kick. Young Ward and O'Hagan keeping ball for 2 minute plays and ticking the clock over. The defenders sticking tight with a ferocity in the tackle, these were the mega positives for me to see these lads just go from strength to strength is a very pleasing thing to watch. A lot of people were talking about CE bench and how it was better, i think that one was put to bed on Saturday as our lads stood up to all tests.

If i am honest I thought the game had gone from us also but like a few games this year they rallied and eventually won when it was again 15 v 15 in the Extra time. The game is 60 minutes plus and saying teams will be kicking themselves for throwing away leads is slightly taking away from the other team that played equally as good a football for the duration of the game. The big question now is can they win it, they will have the full support of our club and they will be aware of our tradition in the Armagh Championship and that alone will be a driving force for them to add their name to a long list of winners of the past. Little did we know in 2006 that it would be another 17 years before we would get another chance to win it, that chance is here now and its going to be a fantastic two week for those lads. They're now a great bunch of young men and an absolute pleasure to have them represent the Club that I hold very dear to my heart. It's the typical GAA fairytale story and what makes our sport the best in the world.

Small shout out also to our near neighbours who are back in the Intermediate final for the 3rd of 4th year in a trot, hopefully they can also take the lads from South Armagh out by the roots:)

Don’t forget CE II in the Junior final. Would be some odds on a Lurgan treble!

Either way with Ballyhegan in the junior final a North Armagh treble is likely. Power base in football has definitely shifted with Clans dominating the minors as well. Could be a quiet few years trophies wise….
