Jaysus you'd nearly forget there was a game of football to be played Sunday week. To hell with casement, it'll get built some day, clones it is for now. How do people see the match ups? Will we push up on kickouts or concede them short to Derry to try and sit deep, soak pressure and break? Will we go man for man and surprise them?

My gut on this one is that we will sit deep and try and hit with pace on the break. I think we will see a gameplan similar to that against Galway and Kerry in the league. Arguably that gameplay should have taken something from both games. So it will be an interesting tactical battle.

Who gets the nod in the half forward line? Hall or Cumisky? Do we bring in McCambridge from the start again? Will Crealey be fit to start and who partners him at midfield. Back to the game in hand here.
Find out next week in another exciting episode of The Worm That Turned or The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town

I agree - too much moaning about ticket allocations etc - usually anyone who wants one enough will get one in the end.
I also think we will see the defensive set-up that was used against Kerry and Galway, although I hope we are a bit more adventurous than we were in those games.

Re match ups - Forker on McGuigan is the main one. He is their main scorer, keep him relatively quiet and we are well on our way to winning.
Keep Murnin and Turbo high up the field, with Rian mostly around midfield/half forward. Hopefully Derry give up our kickouts, but I fear they will push up and force Ethan to go long. If that is so, we need a better return on winning ball from Rian, Murnin and Crealey if he plays.
Very important that we get ahead of Derry, if they get a lead they close up shop. They are not so used to chasing a game.

Will be hard to keep Murnin and Turbo up the field whenever Derrys corner backs constantly bomb forward. Hall and Duffy will have some serious tracking to do,Hall gets a lot of stick but I think he’ll have a big role to play next week.

Agree with this. Also Dublin outworked then in the league and that's what lead to the goals. Dublin attacked at pace when they won the ball. If we match the intensity and workrate then I think we can cause them trouble. Could we see Nugent start here and left up the pitch with Murnin and Turbitt also starting to try and win primary possession from kickouts if we have to go long.

Only question is who could you drop for Nugent? Turbitt was quiet the last day but his long range kicking will be important and his pace and movement will create space even if he isnt getting on the ball. Jemar and Duffys engines will be key to live with their runners and the other 3 just simply wont be dropped.

There isn't a hope that any tickets will be available for online sales. Every single club has been inundated with ticket requests. Whatever tickets they have will be reallocated to the clubs again and not even all paying club members will get them. It will be the hard working committee members who make clubs run in their free time that will get first refusal and so it should be. Remember the monaghan game at the start of the league? tickets all went to the clubs, they could have played it at a bigger venue but didn't. All the non club members will have to just sit at home and hope that they get group game tickets online. Maybe go to your club AGM next year and sit in that room to see nobody put their hand up to take on a voluntary role.

I would turn that on its head. It will be reckless of Derry to bomb forward and leave Turbo unmarked (it isn’t going to happen).

We can’t go into this game just thinking about how we cope with the gameplan that Derry will impose on us. We need to get them doing things they don’t want to do. They might leave 1 defender back on Murnin but there is a chance if it’s Murnin and the pacier Turbitt that they would leave 3 back. If they do we need to capitalise on this in other ways. The ball needs to go from back to front quickly. There were a couple of instances against Down where we drove the ball quickly from the 20 m line out to midfield and then an instant shorter, more accurate pass into the forwards. If we do that a few times Derry’s sweeper will have little impact on the 25/30 m scoring zone. But the ball has to go quick. No sideways movement or even soloing.

Remember O’Neill to Grugan v Donegal, 10 seconds after throw in? That’s what we need to be doing v Derry. Keep them on their toes, spread the play, make the pitch bigger.

We have players capable of driving the ball long, and we have players capable of fielding high ball.

Yeah theres no stopping that if the ball is right. Throw up the best time for it obviously as no cover in and any of our forwards will burn a defender one on one.

Clubs are now able to request hill tickets, severly doubt any will go to general sale, although i hope so as cant get enough from the club to take the children.
