Dubs were always in control in that game - kept Monaghan at arms length before blasting them out of it in last 10.
We buckled under the favourites tag pressure once again and played right into Monaghan's hands tactically - dog fight specialists. They're a good team but nobody really takes them seriously - they finish 3rd from bottom annually in div 1. We showed them far too much respect. That div 2 line-up is ugly - we could struggle in there this year as we're the biggest team in terms of media attention etc - expect all teams to raise their game against us.
Nobody really takes them seriously?!! They’ve been at the top table and done a lot more than Armagh in the last 10-15 years - including making two semi-finals and winning ulster - things Armagh have failed to do the last two seasons!

They don't though. They're rarely favourites and noone is even mentioning them for Ulster next year even though they were AI semi-finalists. I've said they're good team and they've given us our medicine more times than not but the big teams don't rate them and just beat them when it matters.

What does that say about what others think of Armagh then?

We get more respect than Monaghan - ourselves and Tyrone are still the big ticket counties from Ulster. Everyone wanted to see ourselves vs Dublin last year, Monaghan spoiled the party.
I think ourselves, Tyrone, Down, Derry & Donegal all get a bit of respect due to our 'recent' history of AI success. Monaghan have played in 1 AI final in their history about 100 years ago.

Check out the current paddy power odds for AI next year for further evidence of my point.
We showed them far too much respect last year and played an extra defender to our detriment.
That's my opinion anyway!

Monaghan 5 years ago where a dogged team that was good and better than us but this Monaghan team, yes they punch above their weight and I admire them for that yes they are doing decent under age but the senior team imo we should beat 7 or 8 times out of 10r, maybe that's being over confident but if we actually went out to try and beat them I think we would of beat them, we went way to defensive it's like we over thought it,

I would put tyrone, donegal, Derry and Monaghan above Armagh at present. All have achieved more than Armagh in the last 5-10 years. What good is potential when the output is not as anticipated.

I'd disagree with this, I'd have Tyrone and Derry slightly above us and us slightly above Monaghan and Donegal. But in saying that it changes every year

No point talking about the last 5-10 years. We know we’ve done v little worth talking about, been close the last couple of years but its just not happened. If we were playing any of those teams at full strength tomorrow I wouldn't have any of them as clear favourites, Derry, Monaghan and Tyrone would all likely be a kick of a ball either way and going on the last 2 years we’d be 5-7 points better than Donegal. We drew with Monaghan and Derry after extra time last year.

On potential, yes. But on results, no. At the end of the day results matter. That's my argument.
I think this is harsh we have lost 3 penalty shoot outs not been beaten in play, (we probably should have won all 3 in extra time) the Galway game we gave it a go and attacked the Derry game we where underdogs and we probably where the better team after extra time, the Monaghan game is where I have the problem really as we went out way too negatively. based on the last 2 years besides Dublin and Kerry (I don't think the gap is that big) I don't think there is more than a kick of the ball between the next 6 or 7 Galway, Tyrone, mayo, rosscomon, Derry, armagh, Monaghan and maybe Donegal if they get Thier act together. I also think Kildare and cork could rise really quickly with how good they have been underage, at the end of the day not that long ago Armagh where in division 3 throwing away big leads and getting slapped by teams in Ulster, we have come along way where we are competing against every team, the next step is to turn these games against strong opponents instead of close losses or penalty loses to wins. It won't be easy but we have come along way

The good teams get the results over the line. I think on potential Armagh is up there with most of the top 4-6. However, due to tactics, gameplans, nuance and know-how to seal off games, they don't win when it matters. Monaghan are a div 1 team for god knows how long and have pulled off numerous gallant wins when it matters. That brings respect. Armagh have been relegated and fallen short at the final hurdle 3 times - their respect has suffered as a result.

I dare say it, I think a new direction is needed to get the best out of this team. But that ship has sailed for this year anyhow
