Underage football

Didn’t see the game but from what I’ve heard Clans were the deserving winners, though score line may have flattered. Congratulations to them. It is always good for the county to have a strong Clans and a strong Cross. I remember coaching this Cross team when they were 10s and 12s and they played Clans in a blitzes and you could see the quality at that stage. Will be interesting to see if the underage translates to adult level. Well done

Disgrace that the U-16 division 1 final replay between Dromintee and St.Peters has been moved from the Atheltic Grounds to Clady.

The first game in the Atheltic grounds was a great match with plenty of drama and a big crowd present as well. Robbing these young fellas of having another big night out in the Atheltic grounds there just isnt the same buzz or nostalgia with playing a final in somewhere like Clady.

Too much football on the AG of late and weather has been poor. Need to protect the AG for bigger games over the coming weeks. Underage replays don’t typically get a second shot at the AG.

Clady would probably have a better surface anyway.

It was in a bad way last time I seen it about 6 weeks ago. Mostly sand and very little grass on the bottom half. Not sure what happened it considering it’s only finished about 12months. It might be improved now.

Congrats to dromintee last night. A top performance and one of the most well coached teams I have seen at underage in a long long time. O Rourke is now a good appointment for the county minors next year going off last night. Well done to St. Peter’s as well as they have some top class players and definitely a club pushing in the right direction. Fair play to clady also top class facilities and excellent lights.

He has that group going very well. Is that 3 under 16s in a row for them?

There hasn't been any under 16s the last few years. They beat Keady in under 15 final last year.

Have seen this team a number of times over the years and they are well drilled. I have said a number of times that I am not sure if this will make them better senior players. At this age I would prefer to see more freedom in the play. Only time will tell if I am correct. I will say though that they do play well in their system and are very well disciplined. They were the best team in that age group and Division One was a high standard this year. Maybe other teams are working harder to reach the standards Dromintee have set. This can only be good for Armagh football.

Despite my reservations I am certain O'Rourke will improve Armagh minor football record.

Anyone who needed the u16 championship final to decide O'Rourke was a good appointment for the county minors just hasn't been paying attention to underage football in Armagh.

It isn't just the team he's coaching in Dromintee that are improved - their girls and boys teams are increasingly competing at A across the age grades. That would not be the norm for Dromintee.

Yes they seem to be improving throughout which bodes well for the future development. although the senior girls still had to amalgamate last year with Forkhill creating a panel of 35+ players:(
