National Football League 2024

I really hope that we go into this game in the right frame of mind, don't take Kildare lightly and get the win. Kildare have been bad to date and this is a game that we should win on paper. However, too often this is the type of game that we slip up in - when we are expected to win. If we have the right mind set, attack the game, don't think that it will just happen, then I think that will be even more of a positive than just getting the win. Kildare are a mess at the moment and are there for the taking. If we get another win here, then we are in a great position to get promoted. If we lose and then have Donegal coming to town, we are then under pressure not to lose that one, as we will then be two wins from four and will be in a fight for promotion.
Added spice of an unnecessary intervention from the Kildare chairman this week also. Can't believe he called their players out.

I read the list of players who have left the Kildare panel last year and it was shocking, basically every good player you would recognise - Daniel Flynn, the two Cribbens, Tommy Moolick, David Hyland, Paddy Brophy, Paddy Woodgate, Daragh Malone, Fergal Conway and Neil Flynn.

Jesus, that's some amount of departures and are the only players I would know, other than Kevin Feely and Jimmy Hyland. There's no way that Kildare should struggle for quality players when you see how big the population is and how strong their Championship is.

Some big names
I know you are not the biggest fan of McGeeney, but credit where it is due, it is rare you see established players leaving the panel. Broadly speaking the best players in Armagh are on the panel.

Pitch inspection in the morning apparently. Do they have to have a back up?
Carlow’s Ground holds 11,000 apparently. So obviously there’s no second ground in Kildare as big, otherwise we wouldn’t be playing in Carlow.

Looking at counties nearby, the only grounds free are Kilkenny or Wexford, as the others are all being used.

If you’ve traveled to Carlow by train or bus, it’s going to be problematic if the match is moved.

That's the big plus about him in my books, most of the best players are on the squad or where on the squad at some point under him

That's soley not down to him though? There's many factors influencing players commitments to Inter County, Management is only one of them.

Yeah fair enough obviously other things like having a realistic chance at winning something and work/family commitments and 101 other things will affect lads dropping off panels.

Have to say though it seems that players are 100% behind the management.

Watching Fermanagh there we’ll get nothing easy against them. They love a high ball route one football and will be a big test for our full back line and goal keeper. Big McGurn is due back for them soon as well at full forward who is a very good player

Or, 100% devoted to the team and cause......
Players generally don't or shouldn't stop playing for their county just because they don't tide well with management. You only have so long at the IC level. Managers come and go (in other counties), and we have a great route to this years Ulster final and a good chance of Div 2 league and/or promotion to Div 1.
Often stepping away is due to lack of playing time, ageing body or a wish to travel.

Spoke too soon fella. Well structured in the first half, but once the first goal went in the wheels came off and ended up getting a hammering.

Wouldn’t be too worried about them at this stage.
