Agree on the anaylsis piece a bit raw but interesting and insightful , also watched bits of the match I recorded on the BBC , I like Philly McMahon's insights however if you were playing a drinking game every time he says transition , you would be drunk for a week .Happy to see TSG attempt some decent analysis. Cavanagh and Flynn are far from the best analysts but I had no problem with their efforts on our game.
Thought the game was a bit weird. Mainly due to Fermanagh who were genuinely awful. We did our work early, completely bossed the middle third and if anything should have been further ahead at half time. Second half was laboured but if are going to do that, make sure the game is out of sight at half time, which it was.
Macklin was excellent. As was P Burns.
Should have too much for Down but I would expect them to be better than Fermanagh and also to better than Saturday.
Go at them hard, fast and early.
Its not . Some of the goals finished like that are the best team goals you see with the best movement , how else could you finish it , if you catch it and go to kick it , you would just get swallowed up .It's time gaa do something about goals like that it's basically throwing the ball into the net
And Jarly Og scoring that goal on the ground that soccer craic should be banned too
I think maybe @ragingbull is referring to a palmed goal, rather than a fisted goal. Which I agree with. Must be a closed fist. Its not . Is it not pretty obvious, score 15+ pointsIt's really difficult to know what Armagh could have done yesterday to avoid scrutiny.
If the match had been tight "why are we not winning by more?" "why are we not out of sight at half time?"
But then we win by 11 points and were indeed out of sight at half time "a good team would have won by 20".
Had we won by 20 points "yeah but Fermanagh are poor and this tells us nothing".
Yeah, but I (or I assume the original poster) wasn’t saying the goal shouldn’t have stood. Merely that the rules need changing, so that it’s a fist only.3.2 A score may be made by striking the ball in flight with the hand(s).
Id much ratehr they sorted out the steps properly. Either change the rule or enforce itYeah, but I (or I assume the original poster) wasn’t saying the goal shouldn’t have stood. Merely that the rules need changing, so that it’s a fist only.
PS. While they’re at it, look at the fisted point from the hands as well. That is a total abomination in the game.
If you're going to use examples from last year then you should include other games for context:Is it not pretty obvious, score 15+ points
and have our forwards routinely play well in championship games.
We keep relying on goals to put bad teams away because we can’t score enough points. That includes Down last year when we only scored 10 points. We’re wide open for an upset if the other team gets an early goal then dig in defensively. Then we have to go with the whole defensive set up against good teams because if they score 15, we can’t score enough to get near them until the last 5 minutes when we start going all out attack.
No objection to that either, if a lad is bottled up and can't use his feet then it's an art to score with a fist over the bar.Yeah, but I (or I assume the original poster) wasn’t saying the goal shouldn’t have stood. Merely that the rules need changing, so that it’s a fist only.

Depends on the situation, sometimes theres no choice but Jarly Oh in particular has an awful habit of fisting the ball when he should kick it.No objection to that either, if a lad is bottled up and can't use his feet then it's an art to score with a fist over the bar.
Yeah good listen and he came across well.Interesting to hear paddy burns talk on the GAA social.
Refutes any idea that the game plan changes for certain games - they’re always told to attack at pace and kick the ball in early and if that doesn’t happen it’s a reflection on the team.
