If Armagh can’t field for the Roscommon game due to corona virus does that mean both teams get a point?
Therefore we get promoted

Sorry folks - I posted this elsewhere, not realising it was being discussed here.

I'd be quite sure the closing down of all GAA activity in our County was not a step taken lightly, and of course has been done so in the interests of the safety of our members, and the wider public, which should remain paramount.

However I'm thinking out loud here about the impacts that this may have on the rest of the season. We're already playing catch up in regards to club league fixtures and the addition of an extra week (at least ) will add to the pressure, before Under 19 is even discussed.

For our County lads, training in advance of one of our most important league games in recent years is going to be significantly disrupted, which is going to undermine our preparation and - when taken with the nationwide scale of the issue and impacts - has the potential to undermine totally the integrity of the competitions themselves. The same principles would apply to the Championships.

I'd imagine there has to be a real danger that the season will close with these competitions not finished.

I can’t see a way back to Club football in 2020.

Seemingly there were a number of clubs unable to play this weekend due to players isolating. That will only increase over the coming weeks. It would be wishful thinking to expect an improvement between now and the end of the year.

Rufus whilst you (and and the rest of us don’t) have the answers you have at least outlined the thoughts and questions running through all of our minds.

We shouldn’t automatically assume that competitions will be left unfinished but we should at least recognise that likelihood is increasing

Do we feel that the inter county championship should just be scrapped this year and then the leagues finished in january instead off a mc kenna cup or pre season cup. Surely there is a real danger that games have to be postponed. Safety is off utmost importance here. Yes we were in a good position in the league, but it pales in significance to the pandemic.

The next couple of weeks will tell the tale.

Had this exact conversation today. We came to the conclusion that this is exactly the conversation we were also having in April. Things change so much that it has to finish sometime and January, if you believe the experts and governments will have us bang in the middle of this increased episode.

Look I know there has been quite a good debate and discussion on another thread today so I'm aware of the thoughts and beliefs of others and I'm certainly not out to contradict anyone so I say carefully and respectfully, in my opinion, we will not see this easing any time soon and we most definitely can not put the world on hold just to see what happens next. I think most people forget that a serious amount of local jobs are dependant on sport, ours in particular. Just think as an example the new jersey deal. McKeevers will need a launch and wearing of the jersey to spark big demand for replicas and associated merchandise. That's a lot of local jobs and a large local business investment. Being promoted to division one will have a massive impact on Christmas sales. Even if the games are behind closed doors, they'll be watched and if it worked out well, the feel good factor would help us supporters massively look forward.

I'm far from a denier. I've mentioned several times of my own health awareness and my family connection to the NHS, but I don't buy into the panic. More tests have meant an increase in positive cases. More mixing at parties and stupidity in not following guidance has lead to those numbers increasing, but fact is death rate has NOT risen exponentially. In fact it has remained low and fairly consistent. With 932 positive case in the north yesterday and around 700 today the number in hospital receiving treatment directly for Covid is 11 and hospital cases with positive Covid tests is still 62, almost exactly the same for more than 3 weeks give or take "2". There are nine cases in ICU with only one person on ventilation - not intubation which would mean they are severe. So yes the headline numbers are up, but so are the treatments and controls. The health service are doing a stellar job trying to get ahead of it.

So yes, safety is of the utmost importance, but that is no different to any other day or any other contagion. We are well aware of the dangers of driving at 100mph. Still happens. 50mph in a 30mph area. Still happens. Those of us that drive know that and try and be aware of the other muppets, but sometimes they still crash into us, no matter how careful we are. It's something we've lived with for around 100 years.

The league should finish now as scheduled and que sera sera! If we get promoted we get promoted. If not, it's another season in division 2. Unlike death, that's not the worst thing that could happen!
