There's 2, maybe 3 of those lads aren't getting near the 26 nevermind the 15
Most definitely. Competition for places is going to be fierce, which is what you need. We've been crying out for such a dilemma for years. So it will be interesting to see which players make the progress required to break into the side. I think most people could name 9 or 10 definite starters, with the other spots probably being down to who is plays well in the league and performs in training. It's great to see.

That is some team on paper. Players who have been on the panel for a number of years like Jemar Hall, Ryan Kennedy, Aidan Nugent, Patrick Burns, Ethan Rafferty, Stephen Sheridan, Connaire Mackin, Greg McCabe, Joe McElroy and Niall Rowland would all consider themselves starters on any of our strongest teams. Add in the talented young players that made their debuts, played or were on the panel yesterday like Turbitt, O'Neill, Duffy and McCumiskey and we have a very strong panel and we should really be thinking of making a break through at this point.
I think the likes of Raferty, Rowland, Mackin and even McCabe could get left behind. They have not established themselves up to now and you only get so many chances.

Speedy recovery to Down’s Caolan Mooney after he was hurt in an incident outside the canal court last night.
Absolutely correct!

Football is our passion and rivalry is great, but that is real life and no lad whether good, bad or other deserves to be hurt on a night out.

Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends at this tough time!

Thanks for bringing this up @Armaghball

It's funny how everyone sees things and players differently. I think these guys gives us good options and depth in the squad. Ethan Rafferty was excellent in the league for us two seasons ago. He was a real powerhouse that could play a number of positions. He then injured himself and if I remember correctly missed the Championship. Then last year he was still coming back from injury and never really looked up to speed in the Championship. If he was able to get a full preseason under his belt, get game time in the league, stay injury free and get back to where he was, I think he's a great option to have with his versatility. Niall Rowland is a solid squad player and it's unfortunate that he's been in the panel when McKeever and Donaghy were still key players in the half back line. He has no doubt benefited from training with these two great players and learned a lot from them, but their presence has curtailed his game time.

The same could be said for Greg McCabe. He's shown in bursts that he's a good player. He played a lot in the league last season, but didn't get much action in the Championship. I think he's another good squad player, that provides depth. I'd have said he would be the one most likely to replace Donaghy when he retires. Connaire Mackin burst onto the scene two years ago and was a real unknown. He must have been doing something right to get into the team back then. His development stalled last season, but I do think he's worth developing.
