First I heard of a return to play protocol for concussion in the GAA. The Last I heard (GAA workshops) there was “guidance” but not enforced protocol. Is this a new thing?
I’ve heard of it myself but no idea if it was guidance or enforced protocol. No doubt the lad will be mad keen to play but if theres any doubt it should definitely be safety first when it comes to head injuries.

You're right, its not 'enforced'. Technically a player who sustains a concussion can play the next day (not advisable!). But international medical guidance is a graduated return to play over 7 days (apart from Rugby, which is 21 days). Starts with 24 hours of rest, then light aerobic exercises -> running -> non-contact training -> full contact training -> game play. So technically, if no symptoms in any of these phases - you can return to play in 7 days. However if you got a return of any symptoms, you take a days rest and then revert back to the previous stage (can result in return to play of 9+ days). I'm sure however, Connaire's welfare is no1 priority, and he would not be played if he wasn't 100% and completed full return to play protocol.

Nah everyone just loves to use this new word to annoy the "remaining leavers remaining within, but only if it suits" people!!
