This is an excellent article and has put into words what I couldn't about the GAA. Think about it, the best game of football this year (by a mile) was the Armagh v Galway game last Sunday - Why? Well because it had what is missing from most other games - passion. Every other game is a bore fest but our game was a real contest of skill, strength, speed, intensity and raw passion with a will to win. These two teams showed what they were willing to give to get that win and is it any wonder this boiled over after such a thrilling last few minutes. So for me the GAA can't have it both ways, they can't expect men to bust a gut and literally put their bodies on the line and then meekly turn to robots when the whistle is blown. They can't expect to have great spectacles of games that are sanitised for the snow flakes or Sky TV viewers. That already exists, it's called soccer and it would bore the hole off ye. Therein lies the problem for the GAA and indeed all of us Gaelic loving fools (that includes youse bandwagoners). I know which version I would like and it does not include Sky nor snow flakes.
Another thing we should always remember, those attacking TK and Armagh are either not GAA supporters or have a political agenda (blue [shirt] coloured). They want to inflict wounds on our association and our people in what ever under hand way they can, it's their modus operandi in all aspects of life. They are anti GAA and anti Irish in many ways and view themselves as western British although would bite your head off it you told them that. So I tell you what, go youse off and watch Love Island and Dancing in Pyjamas or what ever it is you are into now and leave us alone with our good old fashioned hard hitting game. We don't need you, you offer us nothing. Unfortunately for us though, those in HQ they see them as £ signs and so we are dictated to by everything we despise.
Love both the phraseology and the sentiment.

Interesting stuff if memory serves me right Philly made contact with Kieran Donaghy's Eye got a one match ban and Dublin appealed it . He has a point here , the agenda has been driven by RTE at the start here . I'm no fan of Colm Parkinson but he states that if it happened in hurling the Hurling analysts would have emphasized 'how good the game as as that emptions ran deep' Spillane done his rant said he would rather talk about how good the game was but he choose not to , why not ? The hurling lads circle the wagons any bit of controversy , we see it in Rugby , horseracing as well , we have too many commentators looking to make a name for themselves , stay relevant etc.

Anyway 6 months is a sufficient ban for the offense and i feel sorry for Sean Kelly and hope he wins his appeal , Aidan as well can feel hard done by , but he is now just a pawn in a bigger game and has been hung out to dry unfortunately .

In saying all this we do need to cop on with 'Melee's ' in general, the fact that we were involved in 3 of them this year does not look good, I think we have enough talent to let the football do the talking , we were the team that ignited the championship this year , next year lets have them talk about our football and nothing else.

I have told lads that never ever comment on GAA to 'shove their opinions about Armagh up their holes ' this week and as a proud Armagh man who lives outside the county now this team has given me great hope and pride over the past number of weeks . Armagh GAA is what keeps me connected to home , from the day of my first match in the early 80's an unbreakable bond developed and that will be with me until I die . Time to draw a line under this incident , learn from it and improve for the players , management and supporters.

Don't think there is anything wrong with that. Clearly accidental and just an unfortunate clash.

McCabe was an attempted shoulder but just slightly mistimed
Disagree Stevie, Kerry man clearly had his elbow raised. I guarantee you if that were one of us from the black north he'd be currently being flogged in Dun Laoghaire and banned until he is dead, at least.

To uphold the sending off of Aidan Nugent & Sean Kelly is an absolute joke! Does Kelly miss AI Semi now? You can clearly see both were peace makers - if they are ‘guilty’ how did Andrew Murnin escape??
Once again the officials & suits show themselves to be incompetent.

So do you think it was a red card?

After seeing this footage, yes. All joking aside, he clearly led with the elbow. What reason did he have to raise his elbow, it wasn't to protect himself so it had to be to cause harm to his opponent.

Totally agree. It was probably done to support the referee.

If we want integrity in the game that has to be in all aspects. Just admit ok we made a mistake, no shame given all that was going on, these guys were innocent parties and reasonable examples of restraint.

I think he raises his arms to push the mayo man with the ball and catches the other player by accident.

Wouldn't even class it as a foul tbh

Tiernan Kelly’s ban seemed to be longer because he wasn’t part of the 26.

So by that logic, should the other non-playing members from both sides who got involved, not be banned too?

Kelly’s length of ban seems to be worse because of the high profile of the match and the public outcry from pundits/politicians/priests/postmen etc. A McKenna cup match and it would have drawn little attention, and maybe a match ban.

The suits seem to make it up as they go along

I suppose therein lies the problem. We are both neutral with no axe to grind and we can't agree.

Interesting to see a lot of southerners disappointed with TK's ban - I think the death penalty was what they were after. Does anyone know what bans other players got for the gouging incidents of a similar nature (pics doing the rounds)? There's even suggestions that it's unfair for any Galwegians to get banned at all. Anti-Northern bias at its best if ever you wanted to see it.
