Probably a telly influenced decision especially if its on gaago. Small enough venue to fill it and still have demand.
Yes, I was surprised at its capacity. I remember being there in 2013, and most of Armagh was there. Seemed a lot more than 9,000.Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim.
They're obviously not expecting a big crowd, it only has a capacity of 9,331 according to the internet.
They were right yesterday toIrish News reporting that the Armagh match will be on RTE
Games in same group have to start at the same time. Now that would make for a packed defenceWould it not be better to have Armagh vs Galway,Tyrone vs Westmeath as the double header in Breffni Park
Traffic on carrick on Shannon is brutal on the best of days , never mind a summer weekend , Lots of better options, Portlaoise , Mullingar . Some headache already hedged that the game would be a Saturday as well , some shitshow.Carrick on Shannon a ridiculous choice
The road network is very poor
Frig sake we have 2 excellent motorways, the M1 to the north and the M6 to Galway. Pick a venue somewhere in the middle that can take the traffic. Not in the middle of f**king Leitrim!!
Not to mention the day and time
Minimum of 2.5 hours drive home on a Sunday night with kids who then have to get up for school is horseshit
Who comes up with this stuff !!
The consequences of the split season and the severe lack of leadership in the GAA laid to bare.
I'd toss for home venue at this stage.
Barry’s Tea .RIP Teddy McCarthy
Yes, good point re: the traffic.Carrick looks like a strange choice. Doable by all. Convenient to nobody. But there is also the potential traffic chaos. Tyrone are in Cavan at the same time and Dublin and Sligo 2 hours earlier.
Really hope I’m wrong. I think there are people who have yet to get home from the Down match
Flip me! That’s a shock.RIP Teddy McCarthy
Only man to do it. Shocking youngFlip me! That’s a shock.
Last man to win football and hurling All Ireland’s in the same year.
Only 58. That means he was only 25 or 26 at the time. That’s mad.
RIP.
Think I saw 5,000 mentioned by someone on twitter.Just out of interest, does anyone know how many Armagh season tickets were sold for 2023 sesason?
