The nearest point in County Galway is 40 minutes drive from Carrick-on-Shannon, the nearest point in County Armagh is 1 hour 40 mins. It isn't our fault if Galway don't have a compact county.
They are giving a wet day next week, at least in Croke Park the supporters would be dry. The rain will favour Galway, as they are well used to it.

Yes but the furthest gaelic football club in Galway (Clifden) to Carrick on Shannon is 2hrs 29mins. Okay there may be a few more direct 'as the crow flies' options but best is 2hrs. With all due respect I think you are barking up the wrong tree on that one. Personally it would not have bothered me if it was Cavan or the Hyde tbh. For my location in Galway going to Carrick is 23 mins shorter than Cavan. Not something I would see as a deal breaker. Fair enough about the potential of getting wet although there has been growing voices for years to use provincial town venues up to a certain point in the championship.

No, it’s not. Blame Sasana.

Are we really using the potential of getting wet as a reason to not play in a particular ground?

We've already had enough soakings this year to last a lifetime. To be honest I don't think it's too much to ask to be in a ground with a capacity to prevent the majority from being out in the rain, surely that's the point in grounds spending money to be updated. 25 euros is a hefty price to pay to face being stuck out in the rain AGAIN.

Yes, you have a point regarding using provincial grounds. I’m happy to see these games taking place all over the country, rather than all in Croke Park. It’s just a pity we couldn’t get a bigger provincial ground for our game, but anyway...

I heard somewhere that when considering neutral venues, it’s the distance from each respective county’s home ground. I doubt that’s always the case though.

According to ‘that shower’ and their maps, the shortest route from Pearse Stadium to Carrick on Shannon - 73 miles, 1 hour 52 minutes. Athletic Grounds to Carrick on Shannon - 77 miles, 1 hour 56 minutes.

So, that’s about as neutral as you could get. Unless anyone can be bothered calculating other options.

No it isn't, my Dad attends the matches with me & will be turning 84 later this year as a Season ticket holder since 2015 I don't think he should have to sit out in the rain. Oh & the word is "surely", not "surly".
Fortunately, the weather forecast has already changed, and it is only going to rain in the evening.

Two fantastic games yeaterday. Leaves the football looking very poor.
Not really

Hurling is a very fast game, always has been always will be.
They dont apply a lot of the rules and the fact you can strike a ball 70-90mtrs with relative ease

Football is a much slower game and won't change.
It's always going to be more tactical
It's a much better game now than it was 10,20,30 years ago thankfully
Those who harp on about the games of days gone by are just delusional.

Is the game there for entertainment (for which there are no additional points given) or for winning?
