I feel he bottled it and wouldn't make a definitive decision either way. So decided will throw it in and just blow the final whistle.

Have seen replays of it since and some angles it looks good shoulder, others it looks like it is slightly frontal.

Also, at the end of the 1st period of ET when we were on the attack, he stopped play for a 2 player collision. When the play resumed he instantly blew the ht whistle. It was minor in the grand scheme of things but very frustrating all the same

It was very much a borderline challenge, and that's with the benefit of TV replay.
I think his instinctive reaction was blow the whistle for a free in, but having taken those extra seconds, I think he realised the gravity of the decision, knowing it would win the game for Armagh - and opted for a hot ball.

Nonetheless we had numerous opportunities to win the game for ourselves, but sloppy tackling after over 100minutes of football cost us in the end and gave McManus the opportunity to level the game in additional time.

Aidan Folker was excellent all year and he should hold his head high after that game, 3 brilliant points and demonstrated leadership and a cool head in the crunch moments. It just wasn't to be.

There has been a significant change since last year when we experienced a resurgence after several years of struggle. We have become the team that evokes strong emotions both from supporters and critics above and well beyond the success of the team considering over the past decade, we have had minimal success in college, club, and youth levels, at the start of this season rightly or wrongly we were regarded as contenders on the national stage, this was off the back that last year we played an exhilarating brand of football and our position in Divison one was seen as being secure in fact we were many pundits choice of winning the league, a season is a long time in football.

The big negative for me is the big accomplishment from the previous year, was the team garnered widespread county-wide support, has probably been nullified. Many had high hopes for the success of this management team but this now seems unlikely and a break up is probably imminent. Specifically, their objectives at the start of the year was to secure an Ulster title, reach at least the quarter-finals in the All Ireland series, and maintain their status in division one. If, at the beginning of the year, if it had been predicted that we would be competing against Monaghan for a place in the All Ireland semi-finals, the sentiment among everyone involved would have been an anticipation of victory.

In addition to a change in strategy towards a more defensive approach, there have been notable disparities in the performances of key players between last year and this year. Aidan Nugent, Stefan Campbell, Rory Grugan, and Jarly Og struggled to replicate their previous form, while Jason Duffy and Rian O'Neill, although still solid, did not reach the heights of their previous performances. The introduction of the Mackin brothers last year provided a boost in terms of pace and strength in the midfield and half-forward lines. However, injuries and limited game time affected their impact, along with various injuries in the half-forward, back lines, and midfield, preventing the team from finding stability.

Andrew Murnin stood out as the primary attacking force, but we may not have fully utilized his abilities. Conor Turbitt showed promise initially with his speed and agility, but his role seemed to diminish when Rian O'Neill played, suggesting a lack of clarity in utilizing his strengths effectively.

The team's composition is heavily influenced by the presence of Kieran McGeeney. However, it is worth considering whether his influence may be stifling the players, as his shadow looms over them. Alternatively, one could argue that McGeeney is extracting the maximum potential from a group of individuals who have had limited success at both club and county levels. The attention and pressure that he attracts may indeed have an impact on the players, and it is possible that this added scrutiny contributes to the team's tendency to relinquish winning positions.

To rectify the situation, a fresh approach may be necessary, potentially involving a comprehensive restructuring of the team, especially considering the impending retirements of certain players. A change of management could help rejuvenate the team and allow for the exploration of new tactics and strategies.

From the different angles it's very like Greg McCabes shoulder last year v Galway
Very fast, very fair but because the Galway player had blood it was deemed dangerous and he was red carded.

Very fine margins but these decisions are huge in the context of any game
Time was up

Timekeeping needs to be taken out of referees control at inter county level and a 'game clock' should be used at grounds where the system can be used.
Ask any referee they'll tell you timekeeping is hard to do. Everyone thinks they have right time but when it comes to the minimum of three minutes left that's open to interpretation. One ref will give the attacking team time to do so - a few blow at the time regardless of where the ball is


I don't expect referees to get everything right - they're human and can only call what they see.
But at inter county games where there are eight officials all miked up then I'd expect further assistance
They're great at calling indiscretions but not for in game issues. Maybe they can't but when some games come down to fine margins then the help should be there.

Unfortunately they have it in their heads that this is an official county website and therefore it's the county board that run and moderate it. It seems they walked past a bar and got high on the fumes and thought it would be clever to have a go in public and then decided that wasn't enough so had a go in private as well - 9 messages. Not one accurate and not one without abusive behaviour.

Noted that myself. Made it more galling tbh. We had time to rest up, get ready for this game, put in a big performance and win an All Ireland Quarter Final. So to see us play like that is even more frustrating and inexplicable.

I was listening to a review of the weekend on OTB and Paddy Andrews (who is a bit of a dose), said just how disappointing it was to see Armagh play like that. He was saying they are a team that people enjoy seeing playing because of how we can play and how frustrating it was to see us set up like we did, so as not to lose, instead of going out to win it. I couldn't agree more. Time and time again we've seen how we have set up to counter the opposition, rather than playing more to our strengths. It doesn't mean that you have to play all out attack with the entire team charging forward, but more attacking intent that utilises our strengths. I'd rather lose like that than in the way we did yesterday, where there are so many questions and what ifs left hanging over the performance.
