They done away with the golden score in soccer because teams were so afraid of losing they wouldn’t attack for fear of losing the ball.

Given the risk adverse nature of Gaelic football at the minute ‘next score wins’ has the potential to turn into a real shit-show.

There’s plenty of teams out there that can’t get anyone to score a 45 never mind having a 45 shootout.

It’s not ideal but penalties is the most practical way to settle a drawn game on the day.

The 45s would allow multiple players show what they could do. Perhaps score as many as you can in 3 minutes. The penalties give undue importance to the goalie, so that the advance of a team becomes a question of one player only.

What happens if the ball is in the air after 3 mins does it count or not?

Again there are players out there who canf kick the ball 45 meters never mind when tired.

45's give undue importance to the kickers. Unfortunately if replays after extra time is not an option penos is whats here to stay.

Remember ethan saved one 3 weeks ago for us to top the group and i didnt see anyone taking about pressure on the keeper

Because so many have said that Ethan is not a keeper and that put us at a disadvantage, I've taken another look at the penalties on Saturday - Yes I've already proven I'm sad with things like this, but it makes interesting stats:

In the first five taken by both teams,
Ethan Guessed correct side, conceded Beggan guessed wrong side and conceded
Ethan Guessed wrong side, conceded Beggan guessed wrong side and conceded
Ethan Guessed correct side, conceded Beggan guessed correct side and saved
Ethan Guessed correct side, conceded Beggan guessed correct side and conceded
Ethan Guessed correct side, saved Beggan guessed wrong and conceded

In the second set taken by both teams,
Ethan Guessed wrong side, conceded Beggan guessed wrong side and conceded
Ethan Guessed wrong side, conceded Beggan guessed correct side and conceded
Ethan Guessed wrong side, conceded Beggan guessed wrong side and conceded
Ethan Guessed correct side, conceded Beggan guessed wrong side and conceded
Ethan Guessed wrong side, conceded Beggan guessed correct side and saved

That's not bad when compared to a player considered as a top class goalkeeper.

On the penalty debate, we can't use "it's a soccer thing" really. We have penalties as part of our normal game at all levels. Even Hurling and Camogie have versions as well as the ladies football.
Yellow and red cards haven't exactly evolved from nowhere.
Additional time was first used in soccer
Limiting substitutes follows closely to........must look that up!!
Linesmen were first used in........ Oh I'm seeing a pattern here.
Why do we even have goals counting as additional points? Surely a goal is a soccer thing. Not even Rugby use that stupid score. Why don't we have an extra point for a score from play rather than from a free?
I'm wondering where the idea of playing the game in two halves might have come from? Surely not another sport!

Televising and laterly streaming of games. Free to air or PPV. Shirt and game/tournament sponsorships. All things that change or evolve and come from other things or sports which are now part of everyday life.

Penalties are without doubt a hateful way to lose a game. I'm sure soccer teams feel the same. Having had time to reflect, it definitely kept tension going until the last kick and I can be 99.9% confident few left as they were being taken. That is nothing to do with the debate about whether we should have been in that position. We just didn't do enough to get it done in regulation time. We just weren't good enough, whatever the perceived inadequacies!

Anyway no more nonsense from me!

Anyone know when the league fixtures are out?
Anyone know when the draw is made for Ulster Championship?
Anyone know if there's a McKenna cup next season?
Anyone know if the rumour is true that Marty Morrisey has been approached to join the backroom team to get a few quid for a new car and some flip flops?
Anyone know what it's like to be a tyrone supporter having been hammered and humiliated playing lovely football against the All Ireland Champions 2023?
Anyone know anymore of these so we can start a new thread?

Wrong thread - didn’t want to make another one but don’t jump to conclusions re: what’s likely to make the Nolan show the marra re: an U16 game in Tyrone and someone being arrested. Serious incident but mental health issues with the person arrested.

the manager has another year left so won`t be leaving.
for what its worth this year was extremely disappointing so the county board in their review have to be honest and assertive.
every football man i have spoken to is of the opinion that management lost the game on saturday rather than the players. with this in mind the county board need to empahasis that management must do better be it by way of shaking up the set up and playing to ourstrengths..
Regardless if he leaves or not, the club's need better access to players not named in the 26, better still if they take no part in a game they should be allowed to play for their clubs.
He is not a friend of the clubs, he doesn't give a hoot about club football in Armagh.
Also of course he won't go, unless he's chased, sure who would want him.
Our county Underage football teams have been brutal for years, serious open heart surgery needed there. County Board grow a set

Fair play Francie. I know you are close to the Tyrone club scene.

Hope everybody involved gets the support and help needed

Media will be all over it. The videos are already circulating but the clubs will be forced to ensure no one other than officials are standing inside the wire. Cookstown man that was umpiring was protecting the ref and got stabbed in the leg. Bad handlin. But they’ll go after the GAA.

Maybe I'm wrong but didn't those not named play for their clubs?

Also the split season is only for championship
County underage has been poor especially at u17. What's your suggestions?

With max 5 subs allowed per game. At least 6 people are regularly not getting game time. Never mind the 4 reserves (30 are named per match and 30 complete the warm up). It was fairly consistent in the subs used throughout the year. But yet, those 10 players were not allowed to play with their clubs. Take Cian McConville for instance, if I'm not mistaken he got no more than 5-10 mins in roughly 3 games this year. Only allowed to play once with cross. How is that development for the future.
