Armagh have won 52 games out of the 114 played against Tyrone in all competitions, Tyrone have won 48 and the counties could not be split on 14 occasions.
Armagh have not beaten Tyrone in the Athletic Grounds at Senior level this century, their last success being the 1999 NFL encounter. Despite going down to 14 men in the opening half, a Diarmaid Marsden goal helped Armagh to a narrow 1-8 to 0-9 success to qualify for the latter stages of the competition.
An Armagh goal on Sunday will be their 160th ever scored against Tyrone.
Armagh met Tyrone first in the NFL in 1927 at Dungannon. Tyrone led 0-2 to 0-0 at the turnaround through McGee and McLernon but two second half Toner points earned Armagh a share of the spoils.
Armagh’s biggest success over Tyrone in the NFL came in a Dr. Lagan Cup game in 1937. This was the provincial route to the latter stages of the League and goals by McSherry (2) and Jack Reid steered the Orchard County to a 3-9 to 0-2 success.
Tyron’s biggest success in the NFL against Armagh came in 1973, when Patsie Hetherington notched 1-6 at Lurgan as Tyrone outscored the home county by 2-15 to 1-4.
