Good luck to Armagh tomorrow, this squad of players can go far, an Ulster title must be the first aim. In the Monaghan game it is very important not to be draged into a dog fight which would give Monaghan the advantage.

On County page....U20 GAME OFF: Due to the weather conditions todays U20 Philly McGuinness Football Development League game has been postponed. Refixture details tbc.

Armagh v Monaghan at 5.30pm in the Athletic Grounds is still going ahead at present. We will provide an update if that changes.

Today's game is a difficult one to predict. At the start of the season, Monaghan were relegation candidates alongside ourselves, Kildare, and Donegal. Monaghan would have been targeting this game for two points and know they would have had time to build up towards it. Contrary to what experts have been saying, we are not at peak fitness, and whilst Monaghan might have improved over the last two weeks I doubt McGeeney would have had the players sitting around. I think we are going to see a much improved Armagh team today than what we have seen for 30 odd minutes in the last few weeks and this will give us an edge on Monaghan.

Although we have improved defensively we are still conceding more points on average (average is 28) compared to the rest of the league - only slightly. We have conceded 30 points which is only second to Dublin at 39. However, we are outscoring division 1 41 compared to the average of 28. The forwards are coming on but we are missing goal-scoring opportunities in the last two games despite scoring 4 goals already. Today we are going up against one of the best teams defensively (statistically anyway) who have conceded on average 15.5 against Mayo and Tyrone. However, the concern for Monaghan would be their average of 13 points per game.

For me this is the real acid test for this team to date. Monaghan will be at a similar fitness level to ourselves unlike Dublin and Tyrone who are only getting going. Monaghan are seasoned campaigners in division 1 at this stage and know how to eek out victories in this division. Come 7pm we'll be either looking at a possible league final or looking to where we will get the points to stay up!! Monaghan have a strong team out and a number of aces on the bench also - should be an intriguing game!

Expect a tough game. Monaghan are never far away. We played very well to beat the Dubs and not hard to get up for the game against Tyrone - but this is the type of game where we have struggled when we are expected to win. Hopefully we really have moved on to a higher level and I would take a 2 points win !!
