I think Savo01 is correct and it is a fair comment (even though many may not like it).
As someone else has said, who else other than Geezer would have been given so long to get it right? The record in the championship under him was awful and we do have a reputation for conceding big scores and losing from winning positions.
Bur hopefully - and I know it is only February - we can make a real go of it this year - the signs are really good. Strong panel and playing great football. Other teams like Dublin and Mayo have fallen from their heights and an average Tyrone team won last year. Why not us this year?
I have not been Geezers biggest fan (due to the above failings over the years) - but I support the county all through. Here's to many good days out this year....
I know it’s not the same thing obviously- but look at Alex Ferguson- he had his ups and downs at the start but was backed and the rest is history.

I’ve been critical of Geezer in the past because I think all of us have seen the potential in the team this past number of years but our old failings of conceding stupid goals, throwing away leads, generally being poor defensively and not being able to win our own kickout have been our downfall for too long.

This year, so far so good, we look much more solid at the back, Blaine’s kickouts have been exceptional and there is always movement with lads giving him an option. We seem to have identified where are weak points lie in defence and are able to work a system to stop us conceding goals. In both league games against two of the best teams in the country we’ve got off to flying starts and have managed to hold on to leads when the other team has came back at us whereas in previous years we’d have lost composure and let the other team back into it.

Donaghy and McKeever seem to have been revelations since coming in, I was sitting close enough to the management team to hear Donaghy shouting on instructions on Sunday and having a character like him with his experience and medals on board is bound to give everyone a lift you’d imagine.

Obviously the huge caveat is that it’s only February and we have won absolutely nothing yet, but fair dues to Geezer, all the management team and especially the players they’ve given us 2 great days so far and deserve credit with hopefully plenty more to come. Beating those two teams, the mighty Dubs and our lovely neighbours and current all ireland (sick noise) champions is worth far far more than just four points on the board, the psychological belief and confidence that we belong at the top table we’ll have is immeasurable.

I think barring the nightmare scenario where we lose the rest of our games, go down and then get beat out the gate in Ballybofey Geezer is here to stay and rightly so.

The All Ireland this year is as wide open as it has ever been; we’ve a horrible draw away to Donegal but if we get over that the sky is the limit. Dublin clearly aren’t what they were, ditto Mayo and with Conroy gone, O’Connor only on his way back they have very little up front. Tyrone won’t have the same hunger as last year and we know they are beatable, ditto Monaghan barring the freak goals last year we are definitely a better team than them. Donegal have gone backwards. Kerry probably the favourites but still have the old problem of being poor at the back, as good and all as the Cliffords and co are, they’ll be looking at the O’Neills, Grugan, TK etc etc and thinking how on earth do we stop them. Absolutely no one will be wanting to draw Armagh as they know they won’t get it handy.

Obviously All Irelands are a long way away and even an Ulster would be an absolutely fantastic achievement but genuinely believe we’ve as much chance as anyone, no one is going to convince me that we’re a worse team than that shower who won the thing last year.

Anyway, rant over, up Armagh!

Yea we all know the rumours , And GAA is an expensive business , but if a manger has received a Million quid (and I'm not sure that's what's being implied I'm just curious ) current corporate governance and compliance on all organizations . clubs etc. today could a million quid vanish into a black hole ?. I don't know .
You obviously never done business in South Armagh pal

You couldn’t be some wrong pal but that’s neither here or there . In my own job I seen the amount of compliance needed for all aspects of business , source of funds is a big deal now and you can’t do anything without it . I could be wrong but I’m sure that Armagh who get public money and grants have to show where all their funds come from and go to . I’m not naive to say that The management ain’t getting money or expenses , but figures are thrown around like confetti and the commentary are normal from people that know little or nothing about the situation , their sources of information are Chinese whispers and social media so that’s the only point I’m trying to tease out . I know on the last release of spending my the county boards Armagh where relatively high giving the size of the county , clubs and population.

Also just on judging success with Armagh we have to remember that in over 100 years we have won one All Ireland Senior title ,one national league and would be well down list in Ulster titles only we hit a purple patch in the noughties . Theirs a misconception that are a football superpower in Ulster when in relatity we have had a few bursts into the scene.Hopefully this one will b sustained and consistent and I’ve good feeling it may be .

I am sure it has taken at least £100,000 to run the county panel in each of the last 7 seasons so that's where I am getting the £1m from. I am told we have a full time physio for the senior team for example and Donaghy is not on the coaching set up for the good of his health. Again, very happy with this year so far. When the Armagh, clap clap clap chant started in Croker a few weeks ago it brought a tear to my eye I don't mind admitting, it felt like it really was the start of something big and I hope we can deliver on it. 99 started in Ballybofey and in 2012 I joked with my Donegal friend that it was Donegal 92, Armagh 02, Donegal 12 and Armagh 22! Who knows, but the pride is back in the county and that's the least we always want for the team and us.

A caveat to all this is the continued lack of a proper training Centre. These are only becoming more expensive to build and you would have to think it will only harm the county in the long term if we don't get something built. I can't think there are too many counties left in Ireland that don't have one. Even Louth have a good one in Darver. Does anyone know what is happening in this regard?

You’d imagine it’s taken well over 1 million but thats just the way the game has gone.

I remember seeing plans for the training centre (in Portadown of all places) but that was pre covid and it’s been very quiet since .

Just wondering is there a back door in this year's Championship ?
Yes but it's different this year.
Any team who finishes in the bottom two of division 2 do not get a second chance in the All Ireland series, they go into the Tailteann Cup along with the division 3 and 4 teams. (apart from the top two in division 3 who play in the AI series). If any team finishes in the bottom two divisions but gets to their provincial final they remain in the AI series.
Basically the back door will not have any real easy games this year unless you get Down who manage to stave off relegation by some act of god :);)

Feck this break in the league its usually the time of the evening for ‘that team wont start’. The six nations and premiership will have to suffice

Billy all I'll say is, the AG has a capacity (well pre covid at least) of around 18.5k and last Sunday there was 14.2K at the game - did you see the pics??

£894m in 10 years ;):D

A win next week is very achievable and will obviously be the target. Monaghan will most definitely be well prepared for us. It'll be a different challenge somewhere between the more open game against Dublin and the other one which was all about the defensive boxing....................Oh there was football played?? Dang someone should have told Stephen Watson and the printed media.
