We could talk about this til the cows home but the facts are Donegal set a trap and we were stupid and naive enough to fall into it, and they knew we would, that says enough! They instigated it but we have ended up looking like the bad guys, and we should have known this after the previous handbags with that other crowd! If we didnt know all this after they sent on McGee then we are beyond naive! Losing the game was not the end of the world but losing players because of this could be terminal! We now know that Donegal flat put arent great, they need Murphy going at full guns, while if we have full hand and we turn up we will win, and Donegal now know that too! They will be worried but the handbags will have given them a lift - unless they were to lose the likes of Murphy / McBrearty which they wont!!
Few minor notes on then game:
Not sure how people are lording Nugent, I thought he was really poor in last 15mins - lost possession a number of times, which gave them oxygen.
Forker needs to just man mark McBrearty or Murphy and not worry about trying to attack - he was caught badly for last attack.
Hall cant start in championship.
Rian spent alot of time on our half - maybe that was a ploy but he needs to pushing forward more - without him we are in bother.
Soupy seems to cause more bother as an impact sub.
The Ethan experiment isnt going to work - I just dont like it.
Id have liked to see Cian get a bit longer - if we werent trying to win then he should have started.
Hopefully Oisin fit and not suspended - he'd be better option than Murnin - he was bullied at weekend.
Ciaran Mackin has been the find of the league - some engine.
Crealey will start championship - but alongside?!?
All in all i think Donegal will be wary enough of seeing us come down the road, and for the 1st time in years we have their number - but we need everyone and we need to turn up!
Defeat here could spell the end for eithor manager!

No chance Geezer doesn't get another year (when is his term up?) after this league campaign. He can point to solid measurable progress. We would need to be humiliated in Ballybofey and hammered by a minnow in the first round of qualifiers for his job to even come under scrutiny.

Defeat could spell the end for either manager with a back door in play!! Hmmmmmm. Get the knives sharpened lads for Geezer. There’ll be a cohort ready to do your deed.

Just a few points:

I have been told Murphy punched Grugan in front of linesman at end of game. If O'Neill and Murphy are both banned which team will it effect more?
I suspect Rafferty will start in goals as his height might prove an asset if high ball played in as full back line not the tallest.
I suspect Mackin is a cert to start in midfield. Probably with Crealey.
If Hall isn't suspended he could start to track McHugh.
If Oisin is fit he should start further out the field.
A fit Turbitt would be a more straightforward switch for Murnin...who I suspect won't be bullied next day out.
We could really do with a fit McQuillan to add pace to team.

Rian and Murphy obviously huge losses to any team. I think they may be slightly more affected than us, especially if Oisin O’Neill and Turbitt are fit they’ll seriously help negate the loss of Rian (if were were to lose him). Mackin and Crealey have earned their places at this stage, would like to see Oisin O’Neill start at 11 if fit.

Keep soupy and turbitt on the bench until half time as those 2 lads running at tired defenders in the second half will do damage against anyone. Can’t see McQuillan featuring at all, did he play in the league?

Came on against Dublin and then off again after about 4 mins. Not sure exactly why-injury I presume?

I think there is merit in continuing with Ethan.
1. Potential of longer kickouts
2. Physically imposing (fills the nets) and may well make attacking players over think when confronted by his size. Would his size have made Murphy think penalty had to be better placed to score??
3. Able to forcefully deal with any aerial threat, which Donegal often revert to in times of need
4. More confident individual. When goal conceded after slipping, his head didn’t seem to drop.
5. Will improve given more opportunities.

A lot of fans appear worried by his forays up the field. If this is an expectation of the modern gk, then perhaps we are now ahead of many counties and it just needs continued work. And may be of more benefit to us in 2-3 years when he is more experienced as a go and hopefully in a position to challenge for serious silverware.

I think Ethan is the best option available to us at this point in time.

A fella scores 1-6 and sets up a few and because he fumbled a ball near the end he shouldn’t have his name mentioned as having played a good game… you must’ve been some player yourself

Rian needs to play out the field. His vision is as good as I've ever seen. He would be wasted in a FF line. Against Dublin they were naive and left Byrne one on one on him for the goal. Rian needs to be let roam round the middle and further forward.

There is absolutely no doubt that the single biggest miss possible on either side is Rian. Hopefully he's okay for Ballybofey. He was singled out from long before the end. Neil McGee is one classless individual to say the least.

Our forwards are going to have to be on their A game with Rian O'Neill potentially missing. They might not even be missing murphy either for that matter.

Not sharpening knives, I think its a simple fact that if Donegal lose, unless they win the AI (which they wont), then Bonner is gone. If we lose and dont get a very good run and would need to knock out a big gun, then with our recent record in Ulster, then change will definitely be seriously considered! That just a fact of life...................

Shocking how these fellas go to Aussie Rules and then come back injury prone
Can't remember what exactly happened that Dublin game. He was on and then off. A real pity he has not got any game time this league campaign-in my imagination I hope he is a secret weapon being kept under wraps until Ballybofey. Reality is probably a niggly injury.
