Armagh v Cavan - Ulster Semi-final and Replay

I attended the Cross V Cullyhanna game on Saturday evening. McQuillan wasnt togged out and had a bad limp.

Duffy was outstanding for St Pats and should definitely be considered for selection next Sunday. Oisin O'Neill came off the bench for Cross and looked rusty therefore suggesting to me he is a bit off the pace yet.

On another note Paul McKeown for Cross was immense. One of the hardest defender in the county. Would be a serious asset.

Paul McKeown not really an option at this stage of the season. I remember him (along with plenty of others) having a tough afternoon against Cavan a few back.

No wasnt suggesting he was an option at this stage. Was a tough afternoon all round that day.

Knowing Paul he never committed fully to Armagh and was not happy with the defensive football they wanted to play and had said at the time the training was a step from training with Cross.

It sounds like Paul is as well sticking with crossmaglen. Next time Armagh are playing cullyhanna we can give him a shout

Jesus need to win this lads.

Had a look at the records there.

If we don't beat Cavan, are the 2010s the first decade we haven't competed in an Ulster final since the 1880s?

I could be wrong.
Yes. You are right. The 1940s almost made it but we just sneaked in to a final in 1949.
The win over Down just prevented equalling an unwelcome record for the county of failing to win an ulster championship game 5 years in a row. 1966 to 1970 being the years of shame. Unfortunately I am old enough to remember it.

ARMAGH haven't ruled injured trio Paddy Burns, Stephen Sheridan and Aidan Forker out of Sunday's Ulster Championship semi-final clash with Cavan.

All three pulled up during the quarter-final win over Down in Newry on May 19 but assistant-manager Jim McCorry has said that their injuries are “not as bad as originally thought” and they could play a part in Sunday's Clones showdown.

Burns lasted just seven minutes of the Orchard county's nail-biting victory over their neighbours before a hamstring strain meant he was replaced by James Morgan.

Forker lasted the 70 minutes but he played no part in the extra-time while Forkhill midfielder Sheridan, who didn't start the game, broke down with a knee injury and was replaced by Maghery clubman Ben Crealey.

Morgan and Crealey both performed well at Pairc Esler. Crossmaglen corner-back Morgan was used to negate the threat of Down's leading scorer Donal O'Hare and he got forward himself to clip over a first half point.

Midfielder Crealey made an impact in extra-time with some superb high-fielding as Armagh battled back from three points down to win their first game in Ulster since 2014.

Meanwhile, Cavan defender Jason McLaughlin says Armagh will “hold no fear” for the Breffnimen who were surprise winners over Monaghan in their Ulster quarter-final.

“We've let ourselves down in the past against the Monaghans, the Tyrones, the Donegals. We're going in to a match against Armagh and they'll hold no fear to us,” said McLaughlin.

“You see what it means but we have to keep our heads down for two weeks. As good as this evening is, we have to try and get back and put in another performance.

If them players are out specially Forker I can't see Armagh beating Cavan to fair

Dont agree.
Forker was poor against Cavan
Morgan replaced Burns. Morgan better player than Burns and should start
Sheridan only featured briefly against Down but with Crealey and fingers crossed Grimley should be enough cover.

I more or less agree and I would like to see Forker start but an more than able replacement in Shields also he might play Vernon in HB to cover the high ball vulnerability in the square .

Barring the injuries I can see the same team starting , that’s McGeeneys way ,but Morgan ahead of Burns personally I would love to have Murnin on from the start but he needs to be eased in gently , if him , soup and Grimley ( word is he’s fit) are on the bench that’s a massive impact to have . Maybe Oisin O Neill - Kennedy and Nugent done well so they deserve a start again , the half forward line in general were poor against Down Grugan will start , Rafferty and Hall will need to perform if picked , especially winning 50/50 ball . Midfield a big call who partners Jarly og if Charlie is dropped back then your looking at Crealey who is a ball winner and the McKiernan threat needs to be addressed .
